Guest guest
Hello everyone! So I just got 'laid off' or 'let go' as my boss liked to put it. I was an office manager at a psychologists' company in Cupertino. It was great but apparently I had taken too much " personal time " and my attitude wasn't good enough (which by the way, they have accused the wrong person of) but in regards to the personal time part, when I first started the job and realized that I liked it, which was three months ago, I decided to tell her about my Fibro and my migraines and she was extremely sincere and was sorry that I had such a horrible illness and she said they would accomadate any of my neeeds. When I started missing work due to a series of chronic migraine spells, she said that it was fine if I had to miss work because of it. I thought everything was fine. But now after it all, I feel almost like I've been discriminated against - I was told that my illness and disability would be accomadated and now it seems that that was not true at all. So I have some questions for everyone - I need advice on all of this. I'm only 26, I live with my boyfriend, where we each pay $150 a month fo rrent (lucky, I know!) and then I just have my car payment, which is $227 a month and I " m also paying off my dad each month on that loan, and I try to pay between $150-200 per month. Those are my main payments that I have each month. So you can see, it was quite nice making $16 an hour at the job that I just got fired from. I've got two paychecks and money saved up but I don't want to live on that except as long as I have to! Woudl anyone else question discrimination from my last job? Like I was told one thing and then they fired me for that exact thing! Also, does anyone know anything about unemployment? Am I eligible and how do I go about gettign it? I might consider going after disability again even though I know it doesn't pay much, maybe half of what I was getting per week. Is there any kind of funds avaialble for disabled people who want to work just part time but also get soem govenment money?? I just want to research all of my options. Also, BIG question: for those of you who do work: how do you best explain your illness/disability to your employer and how accepting of it are they? Is it better to ask about accomadations for personal time, sick days and doctor appointments at your interview or after you are hired?? Would it be a good idea to have my doctor write me a general letter that would go to an employer, explaining my condition to kind of give me leverage and allow for accomadation of my occasional needed doctor appointments and mornings off when I have a migraine, etc. Any advice on this matter would be great, since I am now back in the job market again. I will rethink what kind of job I want and I believe I will try to get a high paying job, but one that is just part time. I also do pet sitting so ultimately I would like to have a part time job and do my pet sitting on the side. Thanks for any advice, ideas, support, sympathy, etc. I'm relieved that I'm out of the job that I had because it was almost like walking on egg shells there - very stressful and I felt like no one liked me, which apparently was true and I don't know why. I'm one of the sweetest, well-liked person - I'm not easily pissed off and I'm very nice and sympathetic to other people. So I'm very upset that I was accused of what they accused me of. Anyway, I hope everyone is feeling better than I am today I would never wish this kind of pain on anyone else. Thanks! Whitney Eat, sleep, dream and be - the music.
