What Exactly Are We Testing?

My 5th grader told me today that she did MAP (Measures of Academic

Progress) testing today at school. She said one of the questions was

really hard because it asked how many ounces were in a can of pop.

Now this is what she told me and she could be mistaken, but she said

that there wasn't any information to work with to figure it out, you

were just supposed to know it. Well, we don't drink pop or anything

like that in a can, so she had no idea! I so hope she is wrong about

this. I wouldn't like to think that pop is so pervasive in our culture

that we would be expecting kids to know an answer like that on a

standardized test. That would be really inappropriate! What would be

next, how many ounces in a bottle of beer?
