heinie vs hiney

<<Heinie just doesn't sound right regardless of what dictionary it is in.

The root word is hind, so how would that translate into hein? It sounds

more like a product from Heinz.>>

Actually, the root word is not English, but rather the German word

" hinder " .

" Heinie " is a German slang word for hind end, and " hiney " is the American

attempt to spell a word they've only heard but have never seen spelled,

whch is why " heinie " doesn't look right to some people.

In my experience the Jewish people (which explains the German/Yiddish

connection), use the expression most, though of course it's used by some

non-Jews as a polite alternative because " heinie " doesn't have the same

negative connotation as " butt " or " ass. " I believe that in German, heinie

is the equivalent of " butt " (but, never having taken German, I can't say

for sure, lol.)

(an ex-technical writer who loves words, lol.)
