Guest guest
There are people who make a living doing this, but I believe it’s more common with private disability claims than social security. My neighbor was a retired NYC detective and used to do this for a private agency hired by insurance companies to expose fraudulent claims. It is also more common with claims for young people where the insurance company is on the hook for many, many years of payments – and particularly when it’s for something like a back injury that is difficult to prove, but easy to show fraud. Someone who is collecting on a back claim who is then shoveling snow or lifting heavy grocery bags is opening themselves up for problems. A doctor had suggested that I use my cane and always park in the handicapped spots – until he realized that I didn’t have private disability insurance. When he realized I was applying to social security, he told me not to worry about it. I wish I could go to work. While I never expected to enjoy a “rich” retirement, I hoped one day that I would have my 401K to supplement my social security and small pension. Now not only have I lost another 10 years of contributions to a 401K, I am already taking money out. And I miss the social aspects of working and interacting with other people on that level. I enjoyed “dressing up” and getting out!! Now I’m in a robe till almost noon and at that point, I just shower and dress out of habit, not since I’m going anywhere. I’m sure I speak for some others here…..this is not the life I had envisioned!! Guest guest
I've heard that too,, Im not so worried about them watching me leave my house because I dont get out very often and when I do, my husband always takes me where I need to go and Im always back within an hour or so.. there is no way that I could hold a job anymore and it really makes me mad that they do this to ppl.. and yet any illegal can come in and get 2400.00 per month in monies and services free of course and then those of us who are sick and disabled in many cases are given a whopping 700.00 a month to live on... OUR whole system is wrong,, but thats another story and not for the forum.... grrrrrrrSHARON CROSBY wrote: I've heard of this. I believe I remember you mentioning that you had LTD through your job. Sharon said she's never been examined by social security so I'm wondering if it's different based on cases or if it's your private insurance. Thanks..and good morning!! Guest guest
I guess we can be happy that we did have those earlier years. Some people never have that and that is truly sad. I guess I see the glass as half empty and don’t appreciate what I had before for what it was, but want it to continue forever….if you know what I mean. I get guilty when I see a sick child or even see a sign in the hospital for “Pediatric Oncology” or something like that. I need to appreciate what I do have, but sometimes it’s hard. Guest guest
I know it can always be worse. I guess being alone without my husband and no children makes it harder. Unless I get an income soon, I won’t have the bed to sleep in either!
