He identified them, could match numbers but couldn't tact, nor count. I followed two strategies: visual spacial attention in logical cards puting a coin in the right cell as seen in the sample, and counting with fingers. Currently he is counting to three, can match numbers up to three, can tact number and going up to 5 in tact and counting. Besides that, we worked on memorizing counting up to ten. Our team was able to teach him letters within two weeks (lower case and upper case). And most of his identification is repective. For some reason, he is having lots of trouble with learning his numbers. I don't know if he is bored with them or what, but we have been trying since July of 2003, and nothing. We have tried using 3-D numbers, using different colors of ink on a note card, making stand up so he can have a bird's view. I told his mom we should use the microwave since he is so reinforced by it that he would just press any number. We really don't know what else to try and I was hoping some one had some suggestions. Unfortunately Dr. Haley is not correct on this specific detail. My more general response to his forwarded post is: I hope Dr. Haley's permission was sought to spam his comments on this topic all over the internet before it was done. My general response to his discussion is that it is mostly accurate. However, from past interactions, the quantitative aspects of equilibrium and kinetics relations do not seem to be Dr. Haley's strong point and there is a statement here that is misleading in that it isn't relevant under physiological conditions. Dr. Haley says that DMPS/DMSA and ALA form mixed disulfides. This is theoretically true, and in fact all the chelators will form mixed disulfides with themselves as well. Disulfide formation of this sort is not relevant under physiologic conditions. The amount of disulfide formed is not singificant. There is no reason to assume these disulfides would be toxic, either, and every reason to assume they would be no more toxic than the parent compounds. Otherwise this is really an accurate and insightful discussion by Dr. Haley (especially of the lack of merit of TTFD and of chlorella), which I hope was shared with his permission.
