If we are fortunate enough to have an older generation or more still with us, we might also want to think about our responsibility to learn from the past: Wisdom keepers are those who have long memories, who are able to look back on years and years and give us some perspective on the changes that have occurred and on what will happen in the future. One of my concerns about our society is that we partition off our wisdom keepers into institutions where they aren't given the chance to share their wisdom. They would share their wisdom, perhaps, more slowly than we would like. They'd share their wisdom in some ways that seem less wise and more cantankerous. But it's the responsibility of those of us who are younger to seek out the wisdom of our elders, to seek out their difficult words, to sit still long enough to hear those words, and to bring to them the hope of the next generation, that we can grow up to be wisdom keepers, as well. —Amy HallNew Morning Treasury
