Love, ********* Ann Whicker's Case History 7/27/05 My Name is Ann Whicker (Mrs), I live in Birmingham, England and I am 52. I had a Biopsy which confirmed I have Panniculitus The name of which is : erthyema nodosum I was diagnosed in 2004 (after my General Practitioner tried everything - lots of blood tests - this is when he picked up I had an overactive thyroid - after 2 years he than sent me to a specialist - I had to wait 1 year for an appointment - but the company i work for have Private Health Care. So three years later - I had a name to my problem ). I have a dermatologist Specialist I see every three months. I am on : Dapsone 1 for 1 day and 2 for 1 day etc, ( steroids did not work - and affected my mind - badly ! ), also Mynocin daily, and Thyroxine for my underactive thyroid. I have a blood test every month, to check for Anemia. I have side effects, but no one seems to be able to contribute them to a particular medicine. I get Headaches, I cant sleep properly, when the lumps on my lower legs arrive, the pain is really bad, and I have trouble walking. (I also suffer from Osteoarthritis in my knees). When at work i have to put my legs up and then walk around a bit. My Bowels play me up, one day i can't go, and the next I go too much. I get depressed. The problem doesn't seem to be clearing up at all, I still get lumps every so often. Last time i visited the Hospital (Specialist) they injected steroids into two of my lumps. I must admit it killed the lumps, but I was ill for five days afterwards. I would love to hear from anyone. Thanks for getting in touch Love Ann Hello to you all, I have only just found you as a group, and I am grateful to be allowed to join your group. I have been suffering with Panniculitis for approx. 5 years, diagnosed two years ago. My specialist dermatologist gave me steroids Prediserone (please excuse spelling) and they did not suit me at all, they nearly sent me loopy. i had to start on 7 a day for a week dropping 1 tablet per week untill i had reached 1 tablet per day. My Doctor then tried Dapsone, which I have been taking for over a year now, and its not geting rid of the painfull lumps, I last visited the Hospital last month (June) and they injected two lumps with steroids, (they worked - but sent me funny again). I only get the lumps on my lower legs. I am still working 18 hours a week, and last year had a lot of time off, due to the steroids. I am lucky I wasnt asked to leave !! I try very hard to carry on as normal, and my children (all grown up) seem to think " it's all in my head " . Its very difficult, as you are all aware. Thanks for letting me join and able to speak to people who are suffering from this problem. I have been told that it should have left me by now, and that the steroids should have killed it, but back they come. Thanks All Best Wishes Ann
