I did have a sleep study a few years ago and was dx with hypopnia. I slept with a CPAP for over a year and I didn't notice much difference really...it seemed to help with the fatigue for a while but then I was back to being tired all the time. After I was dx with hypothyroidism, my doctor told me that the cpap probably wasn't helping much because the hypopnia was being caused by my enlarged thyroid. I do take my last dose at night and sleep well...my husband says my snoring has improved and I am not waking up gasping for air at all!

The last week or so I have been having trouble going to sleep early enough and having trrouble getting out of the bed in the morning...not sure what that is all about - I have been feeling exhausted in the am....perhaps seasonal affective -not sure...im going to try to get to bed earlier - i'll elt you know.

Re: Question on Thyroid Med timing

Jan,

Thanks for the info. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea shortly

before having a TT. My husband woke me up one night and told me I

wasn't breathing. That let to a sleep study. It was moderate

obstructive sleep apnea. I had hoped that the TT would help, but it

didn't. It did help with the choking feeling I had. I fought using a

CPAP for probably two years, then found nasal pillows that worked better

than a mask and gave in. It actually worked great when coupled with a

humidifier and I quit waking due to nighttime dry mouth at 4AM.

I switched to Armour in March of last year and with Armour and the CPAP

I slept pretty well. Then something happened this summer that I still

haven't figured out. After returning from Australia, my CPAP didn't

work as well anymore. I started waking several time with dry mouth even

using the CPAP with the humidifier and Salagen (medication for dry

mouth), I still dried out. I started finding out that I didn't dry out

quite as bad if I left the CPAP off, but then I would snore and gasp for

air again.

Right now I take my first 90mg between 7-8 AM and my last dose between

4-5 PM. I'll try moving it to a later time and see it that helps.

Thanks again,

Pat

I have been on hydrocortisone (compounded) 7.5 mcg for 3 years....I have felt better at night for a long time. Sometimes it feels like that is getting better, other times not.

Re: Question on Thyroid Med timing & morning fatigue

Steph, I have been told that being alert late at night and really tired

in the morning can be due to low cortisol values in the AM and high

cortisol values in the PM. Your cortisol should be at the bottom of the

range at midnight and near the top of the range at 8AM. Mine aren't (or

at least they weren't a year ago - I am having them tested again next

week). I get tired around 10PM, but manage to stay up longer, then by

11-11:30, I'm not sleepy and have trouble falling asleep. Then a 7AM I

really don't want to get up. I find if I can convince myself to get in

bed between 10-10:30 then I can fall asleep. (Notice I didn't do that

tonight) :-)

I'll try changing my med times and see what happens. Thanks for your

input.

Pat,

That is correct. Adrenal Fatigue happens when your cortisol rhythm gets

upside down. Your body can't keep the production up so it then starts

producing at night. 8am cortisol is a much better way to approach it. The

problem is mainstream in the box doctors don't recognize AF, only cushings

or addison.
