Billed to the requesting center (in fact, they should send you something w/all the billing instructions).

Our transplant center from time to time will do remote workups for other centers for kidney donors. Are those charges to be written off to organ acquisiton or charged back to the remote center? I thought they were to be billed back to the remote center.Any help would be appreciated.FegleyTransplant Financial SpecialistKidney TransplantSt. Luke's Hospital of KC

HI

They are to be billed back to the

transplant center that ordered the workup for the live donor. Your center

should accept payment at 100% of Medicare just as you would expect other

centers to.

Hope this helps,

Thanks,

Bill

I have a standard letter that I send for

donor evals to be done offsite – based on letters I have received from

TFCs in the past. There are some parts of the donor eval that our donor team wants

to be sure to have done at our center – each transplant team can develop

that set of guidelines.

It has been a relatively easy process for

us to do testing here for other centers since we work so closely with our

billing/financial staff.

But, it is often been a difficult process when

I have requested testing done offsite – getting claims mailed to me,

receiving current W9s so that payments can be processed, etc. Some transplant

centers have been easy to set up billing with at the Medicare rate but I also actually

heard from one transplant center that I would have to work out a rate contract

with their hospital before they would set up any donor testing. As such, we

try to limit what is done offsite depending on how far away the donor lives.

When we can team with other transplant

centers that is great!
