They grow on vines like grapes but have a more " wild " flavor. The skin is really thick and they have grape like seeds. Most of the ones I've seen this year are about the size of a quarter to a 1/2 dollar around. Makes flawless Jelly. A scuppernong is the same basically but has greenish or bronze collored flesh. Never had a goose berry.....Did you tell what a pluot is? Looked like a plum to me. But then again a plantain looks like a bannanna to me too....LOL. As far as taste, I love pomegranites, but they are too much work....LOL.
Guest guest
OK, my turn, what is a muscodine? The grapes we usually get here are seedless, HUGE and green and juicy and sweet! We also get Red Flame seedless, a little smaller than the s but still thin skinned and very sweet and of course crunchy! I love that POP too! Talk about a flavor explosion! We have green grapes growing all over our back fence, they are smaller and have seeds, but when they are ripe they go fast! The kids love them and can wipe them out in a day! OK, another question, has anyone ever had gooseberries? Not the regular, smooth kind, but the wild gooseberries growing up here in the Sequoias, the ones that look a little red ball covered with needles? I grew up picking these and making jam with them with my great grandma, sure can't eat them like fruit, but they make great jam! Mel, I mean we have several types, they are just so fresh and yummy if you get them off the street. My favorites are the Globe grapes, they are so big I eat them like an apple. They have seeds. I don't recall ever having muscodines. I had concords hot off the vines when I was in Kentucky one summer, yum! I have thought about planting a grape vine on my back fence, but haven't done it. That would be great! Marta who is thinking of how much dogs like sweets...
Guest guest
Ooooo Marta! You're killin' me! I have SUCH a fruit craving right now! But, I'm going to be good to my tummy this weekend and NOT give in to it. LOL! Tracey > We have the best table grapes in the country, yum! I like the ones > from friends the best.
