Guest guest
Therese, If you are willing and able to eat clams, they are very high in iron. And I think raisins are allowed on the GAP diet, they would be good too. Remember you don't have to get all of your iron from one source, you can get a little from many different foods. And cook in a cast iron pan too! Kathy
Guest guest
Therese, Have you been drinking a lot of Nettles Tea?? That is packed full of iron as well. Also you can eat the liver cooked as well. It does not really loose the iron quality but raw does get it into your system better. What type of Anemia do you have?? This can make a huge difference is treatments. I know I did all the natural things and took so many supplements but my body would not absorb. So I end up with IV iron. One supplement you can make at home that might help a lot is, equal parts of black strap molasses and raw apple cider vinegar. Take a table spoon morning and night. Here are a few good sites on natural iron problems and what to consider doing for it. Guest guest
Liver does not need to be raw to help with anemia. You will get the same, if not more, iron and minerals from cooked liver. When served raw, you will get other nutrients lost in cooking but fully loaded with liver in the raw state. You don't need to add so much liver to smoothies to make you gag. Go light (1 oz or so). Don't forget all the good bone broths too. Red blood cells need copper, manganese, boron, chromium and many other minerals, substances only found in good mineral-dense food. STRESS is one of the biggest drains on minerals. WGW

Guest guest
Kimi, I just have anemia from iron deficiency. I will try eating some raw liver and some cooked. Thank you to everyone for the tips. Therese in WI
Guest guest
I happen to dislike liver strongly (as many out there do) and I hide it in meat loaf or hamburgers. I am still working on other ways to hide it, but so far that is what I have come up with. I cut it up very small and mix it in and my husband still thinks he can taste it, but now he knows that I do it. He still eats it and likes my meatloaf.
