> Any ideas on how to get a twelve year old to open up to The Work.

*****Is that any of " your " business?

I don't say that puritanically or dogmatically. The thought simply

appears here since, of late, I have been giving MUCH thought to

's teaching on what is, and is not, a person's " business. " And

thus your question seemed relevant for *me*. Perhaps for you also?

I would say, do The Work yourself and the other may open to it,

naturally, as a flower does when the sunlight kisses its petals. Do

The Work yourself, and don't worry about the consequences. They

aren't in your control anyway. Anything else, it seems to me, is

manipulation or contrivance, a milieu that is not conducive to The

Work.

Just my two cents.

> Any ideas on how to get a twelve year old to open up to The Work.

Hi there~

Before trying to get a 12 year old to open up to The Work, I'd come

back to myself and work on my thoughts about why I want the 12 year

old to open up to inquiry. (The 12 year old should do inquiry

because...The 12 year old needs...I want the 12 year old to....)

After taking a look at my motives and expectations, if I'm still

interested in the child opening up to The Work, I can sanely walk

over to the child and ask something like: Would you like to open up

to The Work? Would you like to learn more about what it is? Would

you like to try it? Then I can really *hear* the answer.

For me, this is a kinder way to approach someone else opening up to

inquiry. First undo myself, and then act from there. I find that

when I do that, asking questions is a lot of fun because I'm not

disappointed with the answers that come. From this place, I'm truly

*asking a question* to get the other person's answer...and not just

asking something for the sake of making the other person wrong for

not saying what I want them to say.

Hi April,

I love your stories! " I NEED FACILITATING! " Very nice!

Inspiring, thank you.

Maybe some day soon this one will think of asking a daughter to

facilitate when a thought arises that there is a mess and that it

shouldn't be there.....

Also, it is my story that your reply to Andy's teaching ( " Behind,

underneath all the " feel good " teaching of The Work I see an immense

reservoir of spiritual insight arising out of a nondualistic

understanding of what is. Apparently you don't see that...yet " ) came

from a very nice place.

So far, I like these stories about you.

People often ask me if I am

an enlightened being. I don't know

anything about that. I am just

someone who knows the difference

between 'this hurts' and 'this doesn't'.

I am someone who only wants " what is. "
