Guest guest
Hello, old friends! I haven't posted on the list since summer. My boys (Evy-5 HFA, and Ethan 3-Aspie) are successfully mainstreamed and doing great in school. We are no longer officially running a program for either boy, and don't even think about their diagnoses very often. Isn't that great? And it's all due to great therapists, and thoughtful application of solid teaching techniques using ABA. Just wanted to let you know that I decided to reorder copies of the Early Learner at Home movie, so they are now for sale again on my website at www.autismteachingtools.com . I know they have helped a lot of people get started in their programs by showing them how we applied ABA in its many facets during Ethan's recovery. The techniques are all described in intimate detail. For more information, go to the video section of the website. We have new video jackets too, with pictures of the boys on the front and back. So if you are friends just wanting a peek at the boys, feel free to pop over just to look. For all of you still plugging away in your programs. Take heart. Recovery CAN happen. God bless and Merry Christmas! t Burk Www.autismteachingtools.com
Guest guest
Love of rollercoaster's is that a DS thing like the love of tomato sauce (ketchup)! Trent loves scary rides and the last time we were at a theme park he managed to con me into going on one that left me feeling NQR for a bit. Guest guest
Sounds like a blast, ! We happened to find out Noah is a " roller coaster nut " too when we visited Sea World last summer. The funny thing is he HATED the kiddy " Shamu " roller coaster, and loved the adult ones! Go figure! I will say we were treated even more special at Six Flags than at Sea World...they not only hustle you to the front of the line, like SW, but they automatically let you stay on for two rides in a row if you want. We haven't taken Noah to Disney yet, but we'd like to this summer. How did like Universal? I've never been there either, but I get the impression it's more of a teen-adult experience...not that our little daredevils couldn't handle it! :-) Karla mom to 15nda and Noah 12ds We're back!! > Ok, this time it's not my grand daughter keeping me away, but a wonderful > and much needed trip to Disney! had the time of his life - he's a > roller coaster addict. We really didn't have time for the Nickelodeon stuff - and he thought the cat in the hat ride was boring. The only thing he didn't like was getting wet - whether it be in a 3-d theater show or on a ride. He still went on splash mountain a few times. Universal also gives out a special needs " pass " - it basically gets you in the fast line - and sometimes moved up after waiting a bit due to the location of the wheelchair gate. At WD, we hardly had to wait at all and the people there were more " happy " . I was told it's a requirement of their jobs - always be happy. We saw so many others who had DS - an older woman and her brother (reminded me of Katey with ), an elderly couple and their 46 year old son and many, many kids. I saw one young lady who impressed my kids because she had highlights in her hair (and her behavior was pretty typical of her age) - she waited in the long lines like the others. I saw a few more kids that were able to wait in line - but most of the kids I saw were given special accomadations. We rented a wheelchair each day - between that and having the special needs pass, it made 's week absolutely wonderful (and ours, too!). Guest guest
Maybe the love of rollercoasters is a DS thing - got really ticked at me when I refused to go on Space Mountain with him. I had to talk my way out of that one! I have to ask - was last week a holiday for folks in Australia and the UK? The majority of the non-USA tourists were from the UK or Australia. BTW, before I left, I looked at the wedding pics - lovely! > > > Love of rollercoaster's is that a DS thing like the love of tomato sauce > (ketchup)! > > Trent loves scary rides and the last time we were at a theme park he > managed > to con me into going on one that left me feeling NQR for a bit. > > Keep smiling > > Jan, mother of Trent 22yo w/DS from the LandDownUnder >
Guest guest
our holidays started on Friday for Easter. I would think that many parents took their kids out of school a week early because prices are mega cheaper in term time than out of it. We do have to get permission from the school to do this but they will normally give it if the child has a good attendance record. So pleased you had a good time . I'm taking my grandchilren to the French Alps in May. We will also visit Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland and Italy whilst we are away. My eldest granddaughter (aged 9) is desperately trying to learn some French before we go.. Love Allyson

Found out later that the person got out of their restraint (remember this is 32 years ago things are different now...am I aging myself lol) Anyway that was it for SPace mountain and me....Still would not go on it if I went back whcih we want to do in the near future. Guest guest
lolol. I think it may be holiday time in the Australian State of (where Melbourne is), but our school holidays start this Thursday. I think you'll find that Aussies and Kiwis tend to be a little more willing to take our kids on a big overseas trip when it's not actually school holiday time - the airfares are more expensive in holiday time! Wish you'd been there 6 weeks later! We're arriving at Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel on the 19th May for 4 days.............. You could have heard some more Aussie accents!
