Cutting Back Thyroid Meds

Hello All,

I would love some advice. My most recent labs came back showing my FT3 levels

and Reverse T3 levels to be too high. I've seen two different doctors who have

given me completely different advice. I am really confused about what to do and

I am feeling poorly and having a hard time functioning mentally. Has anyone

else ever been over-medicated and how quickly did you cut back your dose?

On ERFA 2.75 grains for 12 weeks or so...

My labs were: TSH <.01,

Free T4 1.3 (.0-1.8)

Free T3 665 (230-420) HIGH

Reverse T3 50 (11-32 HIGH

TBG 13.4 (13.5-30.9) (thyroid binding globulin) slightly LOW

One doc recommended a DRASTIC reduction (to synthetic 50 mcg T4), where the

other recommended just cut back 1/4 grain. I tried the drastic cut back (and

switch to synthetics) and was horribly depressed. Cutting back just a little

(of ERFA) leaves my heart racing. Cutting back 3/4 grain (to 2 grains of ERFA)

leaves me very confused and cloudy, but sometimes feeling hyper - unless that is

just too much coffee because I am so dang tired and cloudy-headed.

I know I need to do something and stick with it for 8 weeks or so. I just don't

know if that means I might feel horrible for most of that time while waiting for

things to stabilize or if there should be a dose that feels good now.

Does anyone have experience with adjusting meds from an overmedicated and high

T3, RT3 situation? I am not sure which doctor will get me where I need to go.

Thanks in advance,

Grace
