Welcome Kim. I know exactly how you feel. I have 4 boys autistic. Ages are 4, 5, 6, and 10. My 5 and 6 yr olds sound like your 4 yr old. My 5 yr old is a daily struggle also. He has quite the meltdowns if he doesn't get his way. It's very hard. Feel free to post whatever's on your mind and feel free to email me privately if I can be of any help. I'm happy to see some people posting. The list has been quiet lately. Look forward to hearing more from you, God bless, Sharon(moderator)

Hello, I know all about services and dealing with the schools. I also homeschool my boys. My 6 yr old was in a special preschool for 3 years and could count to 5. They said he couldn't learn also. Since we've been homeschooling, he now counts to 50 and is doing better. My oldest, 10, had problems and is doing better homeschooling. So we are sticking with it. It takes up more time, but well worth it. I look forward to hearing more from you, Sharon

I'm new here and am glad to " hear " that there are others out there who are

reading ...my four year old has a dx of Pervasive Developmental Disorder (not

otherwise specified) and ADHD. His behaviors are a daily struggle...tonight we

were out to eat and when dad wouldn't give him money for the video game he went

to the waitress, the other diners asking for money...he has no fear!

Anyways, I feel more connected knowing there are others out there. My guy

receives services from the school and that is going well right now (summer may

be a different story) what I am struggling with is services that should be

available through human services. We live in rural MN....and I think that may

be part of the issue

I gave up on services a long time ago threw the

school district with us being military we move alot and its hard for my son

to deal with the changes all the time but now he has been asking and showing

he can handle the services so I am thinking with our next move looking into

private services because last time I worked with the schools I actually had

a teacher write on his IEP he will never learn so we can't teach him and

since we can't teach him he will never learn....thats when I decided to homeschool

and I've gotten pretty good results ....have you check to see if maybe you

can get private services I know I am in the middle of nowhere Iowa and I

have to drive an hour or more to get any type of services maybe you can look

at the closest big city and see if human service or the school will pay for

it because if you have to drive out to the larger areas they should cover

your mileage from home and back

If any of you live in San Obispo County, California, there's a new intensive behavior modification program for autistics which is just getting started. If any of you live here, email me and I'll tell you what I know about it. The Regional Center has a way of keeping services hush-hush so they won't have to pay for it.

I was wondering if there is anyone on this list from Arkansas? The hubby

might have a job opportunity in the Hot Springs area. Anyone have any info

on public schools in that area?

Thanks,

Ginger
