Guest guest
Hi Janine I have not only had ESI's done to me but I have assisted the nurse anesthetist doing these procedures to others. Mine were done to my lower back for sciatic nerve pain and I had very good luck with it. The neck injections seemed to bother people the most. I am a bit confused about whether you had your neck or lower back injected. Have you tried ice? Your headache could be from a bit of spinal fluid leakage or from the stress of your experience. Drinking extra fluid should help this especially gatorade or powerade. Your symptoms do not sound like an allergic reaction. They probably used depo-medrol and that is used to treat allergic reactions so the incidence of an allergy is pretty rare. You are experiencing some of the side effects of the steroid that was used. Anytime that I have had it done the steroid made me feel hyperactive and when I closed my eyes it was like I could see fireworks going off. I have bipolar disorder and am especially sensitive to the psychic disturbances steroids can cause. It is highly possible that the area injected is so terribly inflamed that the steroid caused more pain but that should be temporary. If you chose to have the entire set of 3 injections this should decrease each time and your pain relief increase. Also if you chose to have the entire set done you might request that it be done under fluoroscopy and that you have conscious sedation. The conscious sedation is an intravenous injection of a quick acting form of valium called versed and quite often fentanyl is also injected. Fentanyl is a powerful narcotic and it also works quickly. The affects of both of these drugs go away quickly and also have an amnesia side effect so you won't remember the treatment very clearly. They cannot use total sedation because they need your co-operation with positioning. It sounds like the procedure and possible outcomes were not explained very well to you. There are plenty of online sites that can give you a full explanation. Just type in ESI+procedure+possible side effects into your favorite search engine and you will have multiple hits. The injections worked well for me but it is trusting someone to stick a needle into your spinal cavatiy. We each have to decide for ourselves. Be persistent about calling the pain specialist who performed this procedure on you but if he avoids you go back to your neurologist or whoever recommended this specialist to you. good luck Kaylene it was a week ago, and my pain has incresed way too much...my arms and i dont understand what is going on and why my pain has increased so much...i have heard many others that have good expereinces > info on why i am feeling this way, i have also been very sick to my >stomach and have had a headache since the procedure....many thanks for >listening.....janine > > > > _________________________________________________________________ FREE pop-up blocking with the new MSN Toolbar – get it now! http://toolbar.msn.click-url.com/go/onm00200415ave/direct/01/

Make me wait a full two days to come in, i dont know if there is anything he can do anyway??? My pain is very bad right now, so, i am going to get ready for e.r. but, i hope that the doc calls before i go, as, driving hurts alot...i am just so confused and angry right now, i dont know what to say, except i thank you all so much for coming to my rescue with all the very good advice....i so appreciate everything.....hope you all have a pain free day, and God Bless.....Janine
