Guest guest
Heheh -- Sylvia -- naughty you, dx-ing w/o a license. I did it too not so long ago... > On a TV 'counseling' show yesterday, I thought the wife was a > possibSle BP. I saw a similar situation on a Dr. Phil show about " fighting between spouses " -- they put a camera in the home of two people, and that woman was TERRIFYING! My mother and father BOTH raged like that, and it was scary! (That's one flea I didn't ever have -- the raging flea.) However, Dr. Phil brought her to task. Dr. Phil never said the words " BPD " but he talked a LOT about her fear of abandonment and her raging and changing the topic a hundred times during a conversation (he apparently had a lot of background.) To me it was like the woman should have had a flashing " BPD " light over her head. He also gave the hubby his due -- hubby was lying to her and just trying to appease her. He did a bit of " backbone " work on the hubby -- mostly just to get him to see that if he keeps giving in to her just to shut her up, they won't fix their problems. Honestly, the names the two called each other -- the fights were practically all " bleep " ! She also kept calling him " stupid " and " lazy " etc. It was a bit triggering, honestly. But she stalked him around the house, and one of the fights she kept going for 10 TEN hours! I have only seen Dr. Phil twice (I saw him " absolve [someone] from guilt " the first time -- boy, I thought -- if only it were THAT easy!) But I really enjoyed the " fighting " show. He taught them how to " fight fair " (wonder if it worked?) and he actually got the woman to break down and admit that she was terrified that hubby was going to leave her " like everyone else has " so she was trying to test him by threatening divorce every ten minutes. I was impressed. (He spoke into earpieces as they fought -- without the other one knowing half the time.) However, he didn't offer them counseling -- he just " strongly suggested " both couples counseling and individual for her. You could see her face fall as he took her to task, when she thought she was absolutely right, and she even argued (though nicely) with Dr. Phil. I don't actually HAVE TV in my home anymore. I know, it's weird. I just decided not to get cable when I bought this condo, and consequently, I can't see ANYTHING on TV. It's good for me, actually, I think, but I sure do like watching at other people's houses! I was puppy-sitting for a few hours (that puppy had to go out every commercial break! and we missed the second couple) when I saw this particular show -- the people had left their TV on, and they were only gone for a few hours, but I caught Dr. Phil. I wish I knew if there would be an update on those two ever. I haven't seen enough of him to really form an opinion. Between the absolution from guilt (which was absolute hocus-pocus and useless, I'd bet -- it made me alternately laugh and fear for the woman's sanity) and the fighting show, I saw two completely different docs. Anyway -- at least Dr. Phil caught what were some pretty obvious BPD traits, if not full-blown BPD.
