Guest guest
Hi Lorieann, Boy, can I ever relate to your problem, age, & family circumstances. I was there too at your age with four kids, an alcoholic/suicidal husband & then some, even crawling on the floor some days just to get around & raise the kids, never mind the housework. Congenital scoliosis which I didn't know I had until age 30 after a bad accident, has been the basis of all my other spinal & joint related problems over the years. So I know how it is. You didn't say what your nine surgeries were for. Spinal related? Or something else? But I don't blame you for not wanting more. I've been refusing any more surgeries (had one) on my spine for about 20 years now. Maybe necessary in the future but I'm holding off long as I can. After my first bad accident & excruciating pain with it, I tried an orthopedist who put me in traction for a week, followed by physical therapy & at-home exercises which didn't work but made it worse. Eventually I sought out an osteopath who gave me adjustments & Rx pain pills & Rx muscles relaxers. That was the best thing I did. We moved around a lot so when osteopaths weren't available, I went to chiropractors who also helped me greatly. All the medical doctors wanted to do was surgery or more drugs & physical therapy & I didn't want to keep on that merry go round if I didn't have to. Because I saw other people with metal in the backs or after cortizone or sterioid shots in even greater pain than they were before their surgeries & with all kinds of worse side effects from the shots like loss of bowel & bladder control, crumbling spinal bones, etc. So the chiros & osteos were my mainstays that kept me off the operating table & greatly lessened the need for Rx pain pills & muscle relaxers. Instead of the physical therapy exercises I was told to do, I discovered hatha yoga stretching postures worked way, way better. So I did those twice daily an hour each time for years & years with wonderful results along with infrequent trips to the chiros or osteos when necessary every few years usually only after an accident or injury of some kind. I also sought out other natural healing methods plus other forms of spinal manipulation & at home exercises like Feldenkrais movements, Chi Kung, & Taoist movements, chanting, meditation, chakra balancing, Rebirth breathing, skin brushing, self-massage & drumming all of which helped even more plus loads of personal counseling, group therapy & such. This all took hours & hours a day though but was well worth it because I'm 67yo now & never had to have any more surgeries other than the first one to move an imbedded nerve causing severe sciataca, low back & hip pain & severe, often suicidal depression. But I'm still here, three husbands & four kids, five grandkids later with all my own bones so far, living alone & caring for myself exclusively along with my new large home & yard. And I'm sure it was because I chose the more natural healing methods along with fasting, alakaline diets, the special exercises & esoteric techniques I learned to do over the years. Surgery & scads of drugs aren't the only way to go. Don't believe the medical doctors if they tell you that. There are far better, more healthier ways to take care of scoliosis & degenerative spinal disease/arthritis caused by it's destruction of the body, if you let it. You can prevent a lot of further pain & destruction if you don't rely on M.D.'s only. Though they have their place for diagnosis & some pain medication, it's always best to go the natural healing route if you can do it & are willing to. Personally I think you need to consult either an osteopath or chiropractor for starters & get x-rays & let them assess your situation & make recommendations. Osteopaths are best if you need pain medication because they are M.D.'s. Chiropractors work just as good if you get your pain meds from your primary care physician too tho. Tho a good dr. will get you an MRI, ultra sound, x-rays for other diagnosis so you know exactly what you're dealing with to find the right natural healing modality to ameliorate or correct it yourself or with a Naturupathic dr. or Herbalist's or Homeopathic dr's. help. From one who knows.... Blessings, Caroline
Guest guest
ohmygoodness....when you said crawling around on the floor to get around...i laughed because I do that. I am scared to hear what a doctor will tell me. I dont want another surgery...just something for the pain because it has become unbearable. The nine surgeries were for many other things...i had five c-sections...(all my kids were born c-section) i had a gastric bypass...skin removal...i had a grapefruit sized cyst removed ...and a tubal. Never anything about my back...doctors have made comments about it but i never followed thru because of the fear. The pain i feel is definitely the cause of the depression i feel. plus i believe i look like a freak...the hump is at the top of my back...and its starts to curve toward the left side...i am having difficulty breathing as well...also i have noticed my clothes are not hanging right...when wearing a skirt one side is higher than the other..so i gave those up...its alor easier to make my left pant leg longer . yoga is definitely a miracle. i thank god that i am so flexible. i dont have pain while bending and stetching...it only hurts when i walk for long periods sit or stand too long...carry anything while walking (no carrying babies) i made an appointent for july 16....they will give me a referral. this is a big deal for me because i have been procrastinating for so many years. thank you so much for your reply...it gives me hope ...i really dont want any metal i my back. lorieann
Guest guest
You really do have very bad sciolosis then. Much worse than mine ever was. Mine's not noticeable except to me in a mirror or when I walk & limp a bit or to the drs. My chiropractor said one of my arches has fallen when I broke that foot years ago I guess. So he taped up the arch, then later told me I could buy Dr. Scholl's Dyna-Steps inserts to balance the leg length. I did that & it made a big difference. I'm walking way better & more comfortably now, faster & longer. I put them in both my shoes & slippers so I'm wearing them all the time except when I'm in bed. Another ray of hope is that they now know how to rebuild bones & lengthen legs & arms too. Plus replace discs & such & organs too. Organs can be regenerated as well you know, if they're not too far gone. Also there's all kinds of new miracle technologies coming from overseas being made available in this country now by the FDA. Also some kinds of injections & other forms of miracle nutrients from the rain forests & such. One thing I know of is a cold laser. It zaps all the disease/pain causing toxins & poisons out of the bones, tissues, muscles, etc & dumps them into the blood stream to be eliminated through the G.I. tract. I had that done a couple of years ago by a chiropractor in the last big city I lived in which is too far away to go to now. It was absolutely amazing. He's one of the few drs. in the USA who had one. He did wonders for me that other so-called healers & doctors or Rx meds couldn't touch & were making worse. But I couldn't continue with it because it was $250. an hour & not covered by my Medicare. I had more money then after my settelement, but none of it is left now. So I can't do that out-of-pocket expensive stuff anymore. But one day they'll have those lasers in hospitals, clinics to use on the spot, covered by insurance. They're just marvelous & you can't feel a thing when it's being done either. You sure can later tho when the deadly toxins enter the blood stream...it flattens you on a couch or bed with all-over body pain & extreme exhaustion so you can hardly move until you eliminate it all which takes a few days. Colonics or enemas can alleviate right away though & bunches of pain with it. You can only have it done at first about 10 minutes at a time for bad toxic cases like yours & mine. He was doing it for l/2 hour at first & I just couldn't stand it the next few days. I could tho, for 10 minutes at a time which was just right. It would have taken about 12 sessions with it for my bad problems tho, he said. That's about 120 minutes all told or $500. Not bad if one can afford that. It sure worked wonders. A miracle thing indeed. So I'm glad you're going to the dr for at least more tests & diagnosis. Then you'll know exactly what all you're dealing with. It can be really depressing to see the test results, especially x-rays & hear the diagnosis or read the reports. It depressed me for days. I felt like I was going down the tubes, was done for & was dying & wanted to get it over with & fast. But I got over that when I accepted it & especially now that the chiropractor & my self administered therapy & exercises he gave me are working & I'm feeling better every day. Being in this group & o thers I'm on is a great help as well. So hang in there. And share what the drs. tell you afterwards. That helps a lot. Also knowing there's things already here or coming that can help you get way better than ever perhaps, in the your life. Miracle stuff. And you're so lucky you can still do yoga. That's amazing considering your description of yourself. I hardly can do any of it at all anymore because the lower spine is fusing together so is becoming immobile & frozen. It just hurts way too bad to do the bending & stretching anymore & way worse afterwards. So I had to quit doing it altogether. And I used to be able to be like a pretzel with my twice daily yoga when younger. Not so anymore. What a pity! I had to stop hanging upside down on my back swing (inversion stretching) too. It was hurting my hip, pelvis & low back too much the past couple of years. That helped me a lot for over 20 years tho so I sure cannot complain. I might not be doing as well as I am at all without that & the yoga. Now I'm just waiting for more insurance-covered or affordable miracle natural stuff. That's all I'm living for just about. Keep us posted on your dr. appt. outcome & dx. Caroline Lorieann wrote: ohmygoodness....when you said crawling around on the floor to get around...i laughed because I do that.
