You are right to be concerned. Anyone that has an autoimmune disease should be

concerned and that's because our body's typically do not react in the expected

manner to these vaccines - this is backed up by published medical research.

Folks with autoimmune diseases tend to have immune systems that are already

over-reacting - the intent of the vaccine is to get your body revved up to

generate antibodies. But, for many of us this additional revving has the

potential for triggering other autoimmune diseases. One of the best examples of

this is the Hepatitis B vaccine that is known to cause autoimmune arthritis in

folks with the DR4 genotype (this is one of the autoimmune genes - it's an HLA

DR on chromosone 6).

The best thing you can do is the usual - washing hands frequently and using

purell. Also, regularly taking vitamin C and probiotics can be extremely

effective. That's what's kept my sons healthy despite having 1/4 of their

classmates out at a time last winter with the flu. Also, eating a healthy diet

is extremely helpful - sugar and carbs feed the bad critters in our bodies and

weaken the immune system. And moderate exercise is fantastic for immune

function. And, of course, sleep. I also find things like elderberry extract to

be very helpful if I feel I am getting something.

Also, these vaccines contain neurotoxins and many with thyroid disease in

general tend to be more susceptible to the negative impact of toxins.

Anyone that considers getting the vaccinations should ask to read the packet

insert that comes with the vaccine - you'll need your 10x reading glasses, but

you will find the ingredients. If you have any allergies, you're likely to find

problems - many vaccines are cultured in things like bovine dairy, egg whites,

etc - i.e., the proteins which are the source of allergic reactions. And, of

course, you can see things like formaldehyde, aluminum, etc. in the vaccines -

these are potent neurotoxins. There's also been alot of recent natural health

news articles on one ingredient in particular - squalene. You can google and

read the concerns about that - mercola has an excellent artilce on this topic in

general.

Because we have gotten too far off-topic, I have deleted all of this thread except for the original question and 's thoughtful and carefully documented reply.

I would not want anyone to decide to have or not have the flu shot based on the paltry amount of information that we have on our site.

I do think it is important that we weigh the risks and benefits of vaccination in the light of our auto-immune status, particular sensitivities, and other health concerns.
