Guest guest
I just searched to read some of her posts. She seemed like an in charge type of person, with a lot of love for others. Such a loss for her family. Only 40 years old. > > I spoke with Kathleen's husband this morning. She contracted the swine flu, and with the underlying lung and immunity issues there was nothing they could do. A link to her obituary is below for those who are interested. I know things are tight right now for everyone, but I plan on making a small donation to the family. If everyone could come up with a little bit it would really help her family. She left behind 3 boys and 2 stepchildren. No need to post if you are making a donation or not. If you want to do so the mailing information is in the article. > > Madeline > http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Lungs_on_Vacation/ > > > http://eastoregonian.com/main.asp?SectionID=22 & SubSectionID=70 & ArticleID\ =98959 & TM=25946.53 >

Guest guest
She always had a fun experience to share. LOL. She was a lot like me tempermentally wise. Even in the spa she found something humorous. she had been to national Jewish and they found a fungal infection deep in her lungs which was why she couldn't control her asthma and was sick all the time. She was starting to recover from it and was almost off the steroids. Things were really looking up. That is why this has hit me so hard. You never know what will happen. In that light I want all of you to know how much you mean to me. You have helped me learn and given me sanity when there was no one else who really understood some of the things I fight. I love you all so much! Guest guest
This group has helped me keep my sanity and especially you Madeline. Your attitude has really helped me through some rough times. I have been to the ER a couple of times but was not admitted since joining this group. Everyone here has a better understanding because they themselves have been there. I really don't understand why most of the Medical community does not understand asthma. It should not be our responsibility to teach them, but Madeline I believe you have taught a few. ROLF. I love the way you explain things. This group and reading all the post about how to deal with asthma has been a life-saver to me. Hope everyone is having a good day. Lou > >> > I spoke with Kathleen's husband this morning. Guest guest
Am I looking in the wrong place? The only donation address I see in the article is for a memorial contribution to the Pendleton Friends of the Library, which doesn't sound like it would help her family. Guest guest
Thanks Lou, but I feel that is undeserved. We all share and help each other here. I just don't have any sense at all. LOL. Lou, the medical community understands absolutes better than anything. They are trained if this happens then you do this. Its not really their fault, its how the training goes. The ones that do understand asthma is not an absolute have either really listened to their patients or experienced something for themselves. We also have the experience of asthma that they cannot ever understand unless they have actually experienced it...we know first hand how it feels to not be able to breathe. You cannot teach that...even telling them to breathe through a straw is not the same because they have the mental knowledge that they can take the straw out of their mouth and breathe normal. They do not experience the anxiety or fear that can accompany an asthma attack...or...the pure exhaustion. I do think we do need to relate our experiences to our doctors. The more they know about how each person's asthma affects them, the better they are able to treat that individual. Especially with a disease that is so different for each individual..we have to educate them...it only helps them in the long run. The PA in my NY doctors office tried something with me, even though I didnt "fit the profile". I had been in the office b/c I was sleeping excessively and was having a very hard time staying awake. No trouble breathing, no chest pains nothing. I just couldnt stay awake...over a 48 hour period I slept almost 36 hours. She did some spirometry..then based on what she saw, said lets do a breathing treatment. I had no wheezing. We redid the spirometry and even she was surprised by the changes. She thought of it, b/c she had another patient who presented that way...and had the same results. Her education helped me.. Ann
Guest guest
Thanks Ann. I wish all our doctors had to read our posts every day for a week or more. My family doctor is more knowledgeable than most, because she has a small son with asthma. I know what most of my triggers are and try very hard to keep away from those triggers, however I sometimes think, maybe this time it will not bother me. (dreamer) Everyone have a good day. Guest guest
Hi all. The Pendleton Friends of the Library is a group Kathleen was heavily involved in, and they are collecting the donations for the family. However, I did get permission from Steve (her husband) just to give you all their mailing address as I was much more comfortable sending my card directly to the family. It is 506 NW 21st Street, Pendleton, OR 97801 Madeline http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Lungs_on_Vacation/ To: asthma Sent: Saturday, October 17, 2009 6:03:19 PMSubject: Re: Fw: Obituary - Kathleen Am I looking in the wrong place?
