Guest guest
What you said could be right...not sure..we have crazy school funding here in Ohio. But, I do know we have something called Ed Choice and that is a voucher program for people who live in poor performing districts to have a voucher for private schools. Also, we have a special fund for children who have autism. See more info at http://www.ode.state.oh.us/GD/Templates/Pages/ODE/ODEDetail.aspx?page=3 & TopicRelationID=972 & ContentID=6678 & Content=49386 There are not many rules with this and it allows children who are taught at home to use money for therapy. The money comes from the state and not the school district. A family that goes to the same private therapy place that I take my daughter uses the money for OT and college students to help with their son with autism and a home based therapy. I really wish that I could have a home program like that with my daughter....but it is only for autism and my daughter has alot of issues but autism is not one of them. I really think it is not fair and I think that there should be something like that for all children. It would help out homeschooling families. Something about students in low performing schools can get a $5000 voucher to attend the private school of their choice. It was not limited to Autism though. The more I read about Ohio's education law, the more I understand what could be contributing to them not recogizing HS as a private school. I do understand how what you read can be vastly different to what actually happens, so the the following assesment of mine is novice at best! Please feel free to correct me if I got it all wrong!!! I got the info below here:http://downloads. ohiobar.org/ conres/lawandyou /Law_and_ You_012.pdfI read about how Ohio can transfer funds to educate a student from one district to another under something called a consortium. States require payment from one district to another if one district is providing education to students under a consortium. A consortiumconsists of various districts that have legally banded together to provide educational services at a central location. Many consortiums are formed to provide services to special education students who require specialized services too costly to provide in each different district. A district may send a special education child to another district, or a private school. So from my feeble understanding, under Ohio law, if homeschools were considered private schools, they would have to start writing big checks to individual families. As much as I'd love to get a check, it might not be practical, and bad people could take advantage of that system. In Texas HS may be under the private school umbrella, but we are not allowed get funds under a consortium.I'm not saying it's right, but maybe it's not about being "against homeschooling"> > >> > > From: Dinkins-Borkowski <julie@>> > > Subject: RE: [DownSyndromeInfoEx change] Palin/McCain> > > To: DownSyndromeInfoExc hange@yahoogroup s.com> > > Date: Saturday, August 30, 2008, 10:26 PM> > >> > > I also heard she gave up her corporate jet and limo in favor of > a> > > greener option.
