Guest guest
We started with acetyl version and my son had the WORST diarrhea ever. Took a full week to figure it out and get him over it. Felt sorry for him. I later found out that diarrhea indicates too high of a dose. Should back down till diarrhea subsides to find tolerated dose. We found no amount of acetyl was tolerated here so then we started with L-carn. No bad reactions. Others here use the acetyl without problems I think. Our former DAN, Dr. Neubrander, recommended the l-carn over the acetyl. Buy a small quantity in case it's not tolerated. Start LOW dose and work your way up to recommended dose. L-Carnitine & Acetyl L-Carnitine L-Carnitine & Acetyl L-Carnitine....What is the difference? Our doc recommended we try L-Carnitine and Co Q10. Went to the site to order I see both of these. I'm not sure which to get. We are giving it to help with focus/concentration.Any thoughts on which would be better?
Guest guest
Thanks , Our DAN said the L-Carnitine...she never mentioned the Acetyl. It wasn't until I went to buy it that I got confused. How much are you giving if you don't mind me asking? She told me to give 1000mg daily. Then she said I should add Co Q10....have you tried that?? Sorry for all the ??'s Angie Handley wrote: We started with acetyl version and my son had the WORST diarrhea ever. Took a full week to figure it out and get him over it. Felt sorry for him. Guest guest
Angie - Dosage depends on the weight of your child. 50 - 100 mg/kg is what I was told. My son's about 50 lbs. so I'm trying to get him somewhere from 1150-2200 mg day. I'm going slow cuz he doesn't like it so I'm giving him time to get used to it. (I figure, for now, 500 mg is better than 0 mg.) I got a liquid carnitine, online at Vitacost.com that has coQ10 with it. It's called Metabolic Response Liquid L-Carnitine with CoQ10. It's okay tasting but he gags on it cuz it's a little bitter so I mix it with syrup and other supps. Guest guest
my son's the same weight & we were told max 1000mgs day. I guess no one really knows for sure. Starting slow is a good idea. Guest guest
I think 100 mg of that liquid is one tablespoon. That's a lot to give all at once. Right now I'm up to 1 1/2 tsp. once a day. Dr. Neubrander used to recommend giving it in three divided doses throughout the day. Others here have also suggested giving it with meals, especially with meats. My son will be starting camp full time and then school full time in the fall so I'll have to go with twice per day if I can get it all in! Guest guest
Thanks , My daughter is able to swallow capsules, so for now I just got them individual instead of getting the liquid combination to see how she does. Thanks for the info about giving in divided doses.....our DAN didn't mention that. By the way what kinds of gains have you seen and how long were you giving it before you noticed any changes?? angie Handley wrote: I think 100 mg of that liquid is one tablespoon.
