Has anyone done anything with skills for taking a shower?

These are the things that aren't working:

1. how to make the steps small and detailed enough to be doable yet

that makes it seem so complex and disorganized.

2. how to account for variations in it (such as shower in morning -

put clothes on, or shower in evening - put pajamas on)

3. a clear " ending point " for each step - how to know its been

done " enough " like - " enough rinsing off? "

I'd really appreciate it if anyone can help me with this.

Thanks.

I have an individualized showering task analysis and other related task

analyses. I can forward them to you if you have Excel on your computer. If

anyone is interested in this, I would be happy to forward the material.

What I usually do for any self-help task analysis is find out what have been

the sequence parents or other caregivers have used and become routine. I

then create a task analysis based on that information. This way, it is

individualized and I am not trying to ¡Èundo¡É a behavior that might

already

be strong within that task analysis. I may make some suggestions though

that would help the sequence run more smoothly or be easier for the client

to implement (adding shelves to the shower, using pumps for all soaps,

clearly marking H and C faucets, washing from head to toe so you don¡Çt

forget a part, etc.)

You can also use ¡Èactivity schedules¡É or other picture cues to

assist with

a long task analysis and incorporate naturally occurring reinforcers within

the analysis.
