Guest guest
Hi all: Hope you had a nice holiday and didn't eat too much turkey! I wonder if any of our members can help me. I need to find a new doctor. I am in Austin, but I can travel to other areas of the state if necessary. I would like to stay on my current medication, which is a combination of 88mg synthroid and 12.5mc cytomel. I've been on that combination for about 5 years and I currenty feel fine. I recently had to stop seeing my endo who is in NYC, because I wanted someone local. I have had two appointments with Austin Diabetes and Endocrinology, the first appt. was with Dr. Espinosa who in an endo. I went to her because her front desk people told me she did prescribe my combination of meds. Dr. Espinosa wanted me to back off a little on my synthroid, because my TSH was too high (I guess that should have been my first clue), but did look at the other labs and we discussed the fact that my TSH has high but that other levels, such as Free T4, T3, etc. are mid-range. She told me to cut my synthroid in half one day a week and do another test in 3 months and I made another appointment for three months later. At my second appointment, three months later, I saw a Certified Diabetes Educator, because my blood sugar is high, 102 morning fasting, to be exact. I talked to her about diet and other ways to bring that number down. Then she said my TSH was still too high. She said " which med do you want to change the synthroid or the cytomel? " (Odd that she asked me rather that ask the doc!)I told her I wanted to stay on the cytomel, because prior to using that med I always felt bad. So she gave me a script for 75mg. of synthroid and kept the cytomel at 12.5mc.She also gave me a lab form for a test in 6 weeks. I didn't think much about it at the time since I was thinking about the blood sugar issue and the fact that I had not seen the doctor but was now being treated for my hypo issues by a CDE rather than a doctor. When I finally looked at the lab form I saw that she had ordered only TSH. So I called the office and this time was directed to the CDE's assistant. I asked her if the lab form could be right and her response was that the doctor's here only use TSH to treat thryroid issues. Sorry to be so long winded, but the bottom line here is: I would like to see a doctor, not an assistant or an assistant's assistant! Does anyone have a recommendation for a doctor that treats with Synthroid and Cytomel and who uses a full range of tests to determine your meds? I do have insurance but would be willing to go private pay if necessary. Thanks in advance, Suzanne
