I calibrate my spirometer every few months, cause it came with a calibaration syringe.

I check my scale weekly just to make sure it is nice and balanced.

I've used the same sphigmomonomter since 1994, seems to work OK. Welch , a half hour away, would happily calibrate it for me for free if I wanted...

Calibrating instruments seems like a good way to scam money out of docs,,,

Hello,

I used to work in a grp that had a large hmo panel. They got their instruments calibrated annually and were under the impression that it was required. For what they paid , they could serially replace perfectly good equipment! On arotating basis. Does anybody know anything about this?

I do believe the spirometer needs to be calibrated “daily”

before use. So if not using, you don’t to calibrate but you need to

document that it was calibrated the day it was used.

I once looked into calibrating my scale because people always

complain of their weight but found it’s not really possible. And,

quite frankly doesn’t matter. My sphygmanometer has a lifetime

guarantee and as long as needle rests in the little square, it’s

calibrated.

Spirometry Calibration really depends on the model and brand of

spirometer. They don’t all use the same technology. And, probably the biggest

rip-off I know of is that the calibration syringes are hideously expensive. The

only “gotcha” I recall is that if you are doing an exam for Social Security

Disability, you need to calibrate the spirometer before doing the test, no

matter what model it is.
