I did mine by myself w yahoo. You can use their templates or make up your own. They have online tutorial, it is really simple. Their support is good. They have paypal. Whole thing is about $12 per month, cheaper for the first 3 months. Not sure how much medfusion is

I wanted to get a website done for my new practice. I have heard of Medfusion. I would like to keep the cost down as I have just started my solo practice, but also want to have features like online payments, submit pt info form online, map/directions/ . Which ones would you recommend?

I did mine with Microsoft Office Live( free). If I were to do it again

I would suggest Google sites ( free- but for a very low fee you can

have a host of other services) and a domain name- read Independent

I have used Google and found it pretty easy, but not reliable. The first site I did (horse related, not for my practice) disappeared. when I tried to get help I found a bunch of other Google webmasters who had also lost their sites...never did get a solution. the first one lost for good. Subsequent efforts have been more stable, but I still have a problem with images disappearing.... I'd recommend Google sites only for short term projects (selling horses in my case, but yard sales, job ads etc might also be good.)

I recommend the web-builder on

godaddy.com. I think it’s called WebSite tonight. It’s a little

slow, but makes a nice-looking site. I can update it whenever I want, and even

though it takes a little more time to build the site/make changes, I don’t

have to wait to upload it. The changes are usually there instantly (but they

do say that it can take up to 24 hours). Our site www.prattmd.info was done at godaddy.

How have your patients responded to the "Automatic Billing?" Seems that is a good way to elimiate A/R. Do you require this of all patients?

We have a handful of patients who have the

auto-bill set up.  I’d say about 20 – so it hasn’t gone over

very well.  In this day and age, people are reluctant to provide their CC

numbers.  We haven’t pushed it except to the patients that have

coinsurance and we know we’ll have to send them a bill.  There are some

practices that require you put a CC on file or you can’t be a patient

there.  But we’re not to the point of being able to turn away potential

patients yet.  If they don’t pay after the first invoice, I send a copy

of the form with the 2nd bill.  What I’d really love to have is

e-billing….on my list to get done between now and the end of 2010.

Well, we keep being promised from e-MDs

that with a “future upgrade” to the patient portal the patients

will be able to see/pay their bills online. But even if they don’t,

I want to be able to set up emailing patient bills to them and a paypal account

or some other way for them to pay online. I get as many bills as I can

personally via email; those few that I have to sit down and actually write a

check for each month drive me crazy. I can imagine that we have patients

that are similar and that’s why their $22.83 balance goes unpaid for 3

months.

The auto-bill form works GREAT for those

patients who have one on file – I just put a pop-up on their demographics

so that when I’m posting their insurance payment, it will pop up the

message “CC Auth on file” then I go straight to the credit card

info and charge it, then mail a copy of the receipt and invoice to the patient.
