Guest guest
Dear , On behalf of all our members, welcome to our Erythema Nodosum Group! Thanks for sending in your Questionnaire. I have added the information to our " Member Medical History " Files on the Group site and posted it below. You now have Full EN Group privileges. You are receiving ALL EN Group emails, and you can also go to the EN Group site whenever you like: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/erythema_nodosum_Group/ and logging on with your Yahoo ID and secret password. You do not have to have the group emails delivered to be a member here. I had my first EN bout at age 21 and was told I had phlebitis too [after the first dr. said it was bug bites]. I have also noticed that bumping the leg could start a flare up. I get mine only one or two lumps in the inner left lower leg, and mine also seems to move up the leg. From my reading this is a variation of EN called " EN Migrans " . It is less painful than the classic case, yet plenty painful to me at times. I also agree that leg elevation works best, and I can turn around a flare quite quickly if I get bedrest. I have never used meds., and it took me 5 yrs. to get properly diagnosed. , I live near you--I'm in Westminster CA in Orange County. Small world, huh? I'm 58 now, so I've lived with EN for 37 yrs now. I am now in a longer remission. I hope I am growing out of it. I am finally going into menopause, so maybe that is part of it. Have you gone through it yet? Sorry to bombard you with so many questions, I'm usually the one with the answers due to all my research, but we don't have many older members that have EN Migrans type to compare notes with. [as it is quite rare]. I'm thrilled to have someone who has so much in common with me join us! Welcome to our friendly group! Love, ***** La Beau's Case History slabeau@... Describe your erythema nodosum/PG symptoms or, if you do not have EN or PG, please explain why you wish to join this group. I had symptoms starting at age 16; I no longer have them as of maybe 3 years ago. My first time was when I was hit in the leg with a hockey stick. I went to my Dr. when the red bump seemed to be moving up my leg towards my knee. He said it was probably a new bump, then that bump finally went away. The following year, when I was 17, I was hit in the leg with a softball. One lump turned into two. I went to the Dr. again and he again said it was just a new bump. Within weeks, my legs were covered with lumps and I started walking with crutches because my legs hurt so badly. I went to my Dr. and this time he panicked, he admitted me to the hospital right away and they kept me there for a week. They thought I might have phlebitis (spelling?), they told me about some actress that had phlebitis and she let it go too long without treatment and had to have her leg amputated. (What a nice thing to tell a 17 year old). They made me stay in the hospital bed for 1 whole week; I couldn't get up at all. They wrapped my legs with gauze up to my thighs. They put a bar over the foot of my bed so my sheets and blanket would not touch my legs. They gave me heparin shots in my abdomen every morning. They also gave me pills everyday but I can not recall now what they were, maybe codeine. After the end of the week, all of my lumps were gone. They finally let me get out of bed to go to the bathroom. But as I was getting out of bed, I hit my leg on the bed railing (I forgot to mention they had bed railings on both sides of me as if I were a small child that may fall out of bed) and I immediately got a new bump. Shortly after they released me from the hospital, I was sent to an allergist who determined that I had EN and I was allergic to hormonal changes. He said it's different with different people. Afterwards, I just dealt with it the best I could with elevation. I would get lumps when I hit my leg or when I was pregnant or they would just show up. The older I got, the longer the bruises would stay. Sometimes the bruising was visible up to a year after the lump went away. But for the past few years, I haven't been getting them anymore. I hope I'm done. 6. List any other health conditions. Restless legs syndrome 7. State what medications or treatments you take for EN and their effectiveness: elevation (works the best) 8. Guest guest
Hi , I'm thrilled too that, for one, to find this site, and secondly, to hear from someone that has what I have. I wish I had this technology when I was first diagnosed. I'm happy to hear you are in remission and hope it stays that way. I believe I am completely in remission since I've never gone this long without a reoccurance. I am not going through menopuase yet but I'm getting close since I rarely have a menstrual cycle. Do you think it's the age thing that causes people to go into remission or are you thinking it may have something to do with menopause?
