YEah..

SO they finally decided they wanted to test/evaluate and do an IEP for

. Her 3 rd birthday is Sept 2nd. I want to homeschool her

and bring her into the school for therapy. I was told by my Service Coord that

they do this. Now I am being told by the school district that is impossible.

BUT they would be happy to have a teacher who " consults " with

therapists COME TO MY HOME and " Teach " . HUH? I

thought the purpose of preschool was Therapies. After all I did not send my

other kids to preschool. Sam is already working on letter recognition, sign

language, and will be doing other reading work this fall. She is in the process

of potty training with great poop success. I am concerned that when she signs

potty they will not take her, and it will cause her to have a set back.

ly,

with the PUSH on time right now - they waited on purpose till " now "

to do her testing - I am feeling rather " bullied " or

cornered into accepting something I do not want for my child. They have

scheduled her IEP directly following her Arean Assessment.. which I am told I

can not OBSERVE. They want to see how she does independantly. Observe does not

mean Interfere. I think that is bologna.

Any

help, advice etc etc.

Never believe what school tells you with out looking it up yourself. There is no way anyone here can tell you how your school district works, unless they are in your district.Get the correct information from your State Board of Education site. If it's very confusing, try calling them!! I would tell the school that I am willing to have her evaluated for therapies ONLY...no cognitive/educational issues and then ask for apts with the therapist for those evauls and to set up a time. Most schools do require an IEP to get therapies. We had ST for two older sons while we homeschooled and both had IEP's, with just the speech goals. So an IEP is good thing and a place you will be able to put into writing a very detailed list of what you want, and what you don't

want.I would NEVER let a school official into my home in the way they are asking....If you don't feel qualified to handle this, you need legal help or just get therapy somewhere else. Carol in IL AIM doihavtasay1 GigaTribe doihavtasayMom to seven including , 7 with

Well see that is just the thing. They are telling me that if I refuse evaluations that they can file a DUE PROCESS against me and or Mediation with the Ohio Dept of Ed. Its in the hand out " whose Idea is it anyway? " from the dept of education.

Sounded crazy to me. Our state does not have a compulsory age under 6. So I don't see how they could force this on me.

The school is lying to you. You can do walk in therapies. Tell them you would like to go to mediation. It doesn't cost anything, but then they will think you know your rights and will work with you more. You do need to start learning your rights. But yes you are entitled to walk in therapies!

I'm not from IL, but I know that in TN we have a state law that is

called NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND. My son is only 19 months but he is

already register to start school when he turns 3. My case worker

that comes once a month did that for me when he was born.

You should be able to find it at your state DOE, call them if you can't find it on the website. States are different in what they allow for homeschoolers.

Hi Steph!!!

First rule to remember.........YOU hold the highest card when it comes to your

child's education including evaluations, decisions and the day someone tells me

I am told I cannot observe ANY testing on either of my girls and that order is

executed you better check with Hell because it will have frozen over!!!! LOL!!!!

Last year, at the end of the school year we had a meeting for my 7 year old

where all the " experts " and therapist and school principal were in attendance.

They suggested we move our daughter to another school in the district where they

said they were better equipped for my daughter's needs. I checked out the school

and it was smaller, dirty and I was not impressed with the heavy handedness they

treated the kids. A little girl with DS started to run up to me and one of the

aids that was built like a prison matron practically knocked this little girl

down. I made it clear it was fine and then the little girl took me by the hand

to show me what she was coloring and hugged me. Needless to say there was NO WAY

IN HELL my little girl was going there.

Then I went home and got on the net. If you type the right questions in Google

you will eventually find what you are looking for. What I was looking for was a

site that rated schools in my state/district. Low and behold this school is the

LOWEST RATED SCHOOL in the district! Some parents went so far as to buy houses a

street or two over to avoid being in the boundaries of having to send their

child to this school. Not finished yet!!!! Then I put a call into a great lady

who worked with my younger daughter when she was with Parents As Teachers and

now worked for that school district. I asked her about it and she clearly said

" you DO NOT want your babies in that school! " . Needless to say school started

this week and my 7 year old is staying put RIGHT WHERE SHE WAS in the same

school rather than the substandard hell hole they suggested.

Just remember one thing. YOU AS A PARENT out rank these so-called experts and do

not EVER let them bully you or tell you when and where you can be present for

what when your child is involved. If you want to make a surprise, unannounced

visit during the day to the school that is your right and I suggest you do it

from time to time.

Do not panic, get mad! If you own your home look at the way your property taxes

are divided up. 50-75% go to the school district. WE PAY THEIR SALARIES!! You

have your rights. Best to avail yourself of them early in the game and not allow

them to tell you what's what or you will set a trend.

Go get em Steph!!!! The squeaky wheel gets the grease.
