Guest guest
Dimethyl and Trimethyl. It affects where it inters the ? cycle (I think methalation). If one doesn't have any effects, the other one usually does. We use DMG with good results and haven't tried TMG yet. I hope this helps. > > Can someone help me understand this? > > gfcfmom >
Guest guest
DMG - dimethylglycine (two methyl groups) Can help with speech and eye contact. May increase oxygen utilisation, may stimulate cellular immunity. Some studies have shown it boosts NK cell funtion. DMG is an amino acid. With ASD DMG formation maybe impeded which can cause folate metabolism to be imbalanced. Works with folate and B12. Provides chemical components for folate to peform its many functions. Be sure folic acid is adequate. When DMG comes appart and gives away its methyl groups the body needs folate as an acceptor. In the absence of folate DMG can produce formaldehyde. Depending upon your current biochemistry, some people do well on DMG, others on DMG + folate + B12, others on TMG, and some on TMG plus folate and B12. (TMG - Trimethyglycine - 3 methyl groups) We are using TMG with Folinic Acid and B12. DAN recommended dosage for DMG is: 20kg: 125-375mg per day 30kg: 190-560 mg per day 40kg: 250-750 mg per day 50kg: 300-900 mg per day 60kg: 375-1100 mg per day 70kg+: 450-1300 mg per day Cheers gfcfmom wrote: Can someone help me understand this? gfcfmom
Guest guest
Thanks . I have my son on DMG right now with added folic and B12 from Kirkman. Wondering if I should try TMG to see if he will do even better on this - is there any downside and also, would he benefit from additional folic acid? Thank you. gfcfmom > > > > Can someone help me understand this? > > > > gfcfmom > > > > >
Guest guest
You could try it with a low dose and build up and see if the results were better. You could get the Kirkman TMG with folinic acid and B12. It can sometimes work out worse if you are low in cysteine, taurine and glutathione. But this sometimes lasts a few days or less and then glutathione levels improve. If you're going to do TMG, make sure your supplementing Taurine as well. Do taurine for a week before introducing the TMG. A good DAN doctor should be able to tell from test results if DMG or TMG is the way to go. gfcfmom wrote: Thanks . Guest guest
My son because a psychotic nut on TMG. That was over 5 years ago. He hadn't showed any response to DMG either. He was verbal at the time but lost all language for two weeks and was spinning in circles, staring at the lights, giggling hysterically, then turned violent, agressive. There are some kids who simply cannot tolerate TMG. The glycine is conjugated with benzoic acid in the liver and creates sky high hippuric acid, and they become like nuts. My son was also a big responder to methylB12 and takes folapro, so Dans say " oh...undermethylator " and always recommend TMG or DMG. But since that regression, I have steered clear of all glycine preparations. My son is doing very well. He is very verbal and self aware and talks about how, most of the time he doesn't feel like he has autism anymore. I believe there is a subgroup of kids who are undermethylators but cannot tolerate TMG. At the time my son regressed, Owens had formed a group of parents with kids who had really high hippuric acid and this seemed to be the cause with all those in that group. found that same subgroup also seem to have issues with oxalates and she went on to start her low oxalate diet group after that. The oxalate issue was a real key in my son's recover, so it's something else to look into. > > Can someone help me understand this? > > gfcfmom >
