I'd forgotten entirely about this for years, but my mom used to say this EXACT same thing to me. ***Wow- talk about triggering some memories! That is so weird- my nada used to call me Magnani- apparently an Italian actess that was known for overacting or something. I never saw any of her movies but I sure was compared to her by nada whenever I was upset, crying about something. I hated it because it was said with such rudeness, annoyance and hate- not in a loving way to comfort. I can't imagine taunting my son with those types of words. Yes any emotion I felt was squashed and degraded. Her favorite that nada used even into my 30's was, " Your face will freeze like that " when I had a furrowed brow.
