THANKYOU!!! >IT MEANS ALOT TO ME! Amy, The closest commercial airport is in Bakersfield, about 30 miles drom Delano. You can either rent a car there or call Berreth Medical in Delano. They have a limo service and do pick up Dr. K's patients in Bakersfield, but I don't know what they charge. There is a small airport in Delano if you know someone that has their own airplane. Then you could fly into that one and someone from th eoffice will pick you up since it's only a mile away. We live in the Sacramento area and my initial tripe were by car, nearly a four hour one way ride. A few months ago I was able to get my private pilot's license back and have rented a small airplane for the trip the last couple times. An hour and a half each way sure beats four in a car. ;-)) Hope that helps.. Jerry
Guest guest
Hi Amy! I drove to Dr. K's. I live in Santee, California which is in San Diego County. It was about a 5 1/2 hour drive. Now, when I go see Dr. K, I make an overnight stop at my mom's house in Oxnard. She's about halfway between both cities. Where are you coming from? I believe you can take a plane to Bakersfield and get a rental car from there. It's about 35 miles to Delano from there, I think. Tracey > Im so confused! It says theres no airport in Delano. Guest guest
Dear Amy, I live in Texas. I usually fly into Fresno, rent a car and head south. However, I have also flown into LAX (for consult) rented a car and headed north. AndI flew into Orange County (when I went for the surgery) but I prefer Fresno. I am 28 months post op and would do it again in a heartbeat! hugs, cindy lee - In DS_Friends_Keshishian , " Amy Young " <amycakes04@y...> wrote: > Im so confused! It says theres no airport in Delano. Guest guest
Amy, I am one month post op. My consult appointment was supposed to be from 10am to 4pm. I left there at 2pm. You watch a few videos and Dee sits down and goes over everything that you will need to know. She does a great job answering questions so have them ready. You will also take a short test about all the information that she discussed with you and whoever else may be there with you. After this, you will see the doctor after you get weighed. You also take a lunch break. Plan on spending all day there. The doctor can get very busy so that is what takes the most amount of time, for your appointment waiting to see him. The lady that was there with me didn't plan for it to be all day and she ended up having to drive back home and reschedule because her husband didn't want to wait. She had brought her son with her who was 3 and it was too hard for him to watch him that long. I felt bad for her but that is why I say plan to stay all day. Have your questions ready for the doctor as well. When is your surgery planned for? Let me know if you have any specific questions. You will recieve a binder that pretty much tells you everything except not much about what could go wrong. I say, be prepared for the worst, and when it goes well you will be doing great. I say this because I had some major complications after my surgery and I was not at all prepared for them. I did not have a good support system set up for if something went wrong. I was supposed to have the laparoscopy surgery but found out 24 hours before my surgery that the insurance would not pay for it and I would be having open. I was not prepared for that. Then after the surgery my blood sugars skyrocketed instead of going down and I ended up with ketoacidosis. The gas got stuck in my small intestine and I could not pass even water through. So, because of all the acid and the water sitting in my stomach, I kept throwing up. I was hospitalized twice for dehydration, gas in the small intestine and ketoacidosis. I was there for two weeks. The doctor wanted me to stay another week in a convalescent hospital because they could no longer keep me in the hospital, but I had to come home I was just so stressed and not sleeping. My point being, just be prepared for if something does go wrong. Most likely, everything will be fine but it is always good to be prepared. Take care. -- **Wake me up from the nothing that I've become** -------------- Original message -------------- Thankyou ! Hugs to you too!!!!(i love hugs!!!)
