Guest guest
FYI, during the long, tedious process (one that excluded only a thyroid panel, mind you) leading to an erroneous diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, I was also diagnosed with ocular migraines. For me, they were just one more symptom in the autoimmune (Hashimoto’s) constellation, one that went away entirely when I was prescribed replacement thyroid hormone. I have not had an “eyegraine” in years, except during a four-month period in 2006 when I was not medicated at all. I see the immunologist in Houston on Thursday and will have in hand lab orders for the above tests to have drawn at LabCorp if she will not order them through my insurance. However, I am beginning to vacillate; going back and forth as to whether or not I should have these labs done. Everything I have read on Hypothyroidism sounds like me, from the severe fatigue, Epstein Barr virus, fibromyalia, mood swings, debilitating depression, weight gain, thinning eyebrows, wavy, brittle finger nails, brain fog and extremely short term memory loss, etc. One thing I have not mentioned is that I am ALWAYS hoarse. Guess what I am wanting here is some support encouraging me to have the labs drawn on my own if the immunologist. I did get SSDI and and keeping a VERY tight reins on the back payment, so I can get the labs done on my own without feeling I threw the money away if the labs are within range. Thanks for the SUPPORT! (Hoping there are no, or not many typos here, I am having an ocular migraine and can barely see now.) Guest guest
Funny you should mention being hoarse. I lose my voice so fast if I have to raise my voice even the slightest...like at a noisy restaurant, party, etc. Is that a problem for hypos? People are always asking me why I am hoarse. It was a problem when I had thyroid tumors but I don't have any now. Guest guest
I mentioned hoarseness because it has been a problem for me since about a year into getting all my symptoms. I love to sing. Not that I am a great, or even good singer, but I love singing. I have not been able to sing along with the radio in years. Recently it occurred to me I might have a problem with my larynx and even asked the internist today if he could refer me to an ENT who can scope me in office without driving all the way to Houston. The internist can scope me and will in a month when I go back. But then, when I got home and started googling, I noticed that hoarseness is listed as a symptom in at least 3 of the hypo sites I have saved on my computer. Interesting that you too have a hoarseness problem! Does anyone else experience hoarseness? Guest guest
Being hoarse was the only symptom I had which proved to be caused by GERD. Acid was burning my vocal cords ever night... I saw them on a " scope " test! Nasty. Marti Re: Just came back from the internist > Funny you should mention being hoarse. Guest guest
The TSH is definitely not enough to rule out a thyroid disorder. Keep up your diligence. Guest guest
That's insurance refusing to let you do both in one day. Interesting question because EVERYTIME the local GI doc tests me for H. Pylori I am positive! When I had my colonoscopy earlier this year I tried to get the Houston GI doc to do a Endoscopy at the same time and he refused. Guest guest
I did both in one day in July. I'm thinking she was too close to her last endoscopy. I had to wait 15 days after I originally scheduled mine to get two years away from the prior colonoscopy. Guest guest
It is actually much cheaper for the insurance to do them both at the same time because of only having to pay for one anesthesia and operating room. I see both and upper and lower scope done at the same time at the hospitals I work for. I wouldn’t say it is common but it is also not uncommon.
