Guest guest
Since Lula made this comment... I'm trying to figure out how my last name got into my posts. I personally feel no strong need to be anonymous but I'd prefer to be able to talk freely about other people and I don't feel I'd really be protecting their privacy with my very distinctive last name floating around. I'm pretty computer savvy so I feel very frustrated that I can't figure out where my last name came from. In my Yahoo profile, I just use the first, but both in the mailing list and on the Web message board, my last name is displayed. Hmmmm..... anybody have an idea what I should do? Thanks, Dorothy (Actually I just made up that name to create a diversion :-) > > Anyway, I also belong to one of the yahoo craft > groups, where I use my real name and yahoo address. > Some jerk actually hijacked out posts and placed them > on his website. Guest guest
Dorothy, I am not computer savy, but I went in to check my profile, and I have smhtrain2 as my Yahoo ID, and drilling down to another page, I have checked that I do not want my online status to be diplayed. That may have something to do with this? Sylvia And, by the way, good diversion! > > Since Lula made this comment... > > I'm trying to figure out how my last name got into my posts. Guest guest
Hi Dorothy, The same exact thing happened to me and one of the members reminded me to never reply to a post from your email. Make sure that if you want to post, you go to Modoasis.com. I know, it freaked me out at first too, only because I was afraid my nada would wonder on here and see it....Eeeek. No biggie.... > > Since Lula made this comment... > > I'm trying to figure out how my last name got into my posts. Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I've been reading all the posts regarding our real names showing up here at times. I had this problem, too. So, I created an entirely new yahoo account....would you actually believe that " Planet Lula " was not my real name?...And although I feel like it, I'm really NOT from a distant planet in the far reaches of Oz (whew, feels good to get that one off my chest). But I am definitely from Oz! (he he he) Having two separate Yahoo accounts is a real pain. And, at times I made the mistake of sending emails from my real yahoo address (so I unsubscribed my real yahoo address from our group). Anyway, like I said, to me, as everything I'm trying to heal, it all boils down to: If nada (who is completely computer illiterate) saw the posts, or if someone told her about them, she may kill herself, and I would be/feel responsible. Also, the fake name really mentally frees me. If I used my real name, I would never be able to write the stuff I do. Cheers, Lula! --- Dorothy Schirkofsky wrote: > > Since Lula made this comment... > > I'm trying to figure out how my last name got into > my posts. Guest guest
I checked the source of your message and that does appear to be your problem: Your email address is distinct from your profile. Guest guest
Hi and Everyone, I'm no expert on email, but I was told that the only way not to have your real name appear was to create a new email account. So, now I have 2 yahoo eamil accounts (one with my name) and this one (planetlula owned by Planet Lula). Cheers, -Lula --- wrote: > I checked the source of your message and that does > appear to be your > problem: > > Your email address is distinct from your profile. > > To: ModOasis > In-Reply-To: > <1118890877.2191.20811.m27 > > Message-Id: > > X-Mailer: Apple Mail (2.553) > X-ELNK-Trace: > 15c45b2abe6e5b250e1b13634061d4137e972de0d01da94072a3829d015eea0f59e172dad8f11567\ 350badd9bab72f9c350badd9bab72f9c350badd9bab72f9c > X-Originating-IP: 209.86.89.65 <http://209.86.89.65> > X-eGroups-Msg-Info: 1:12:0 > > X-Yahoo-Profile: bpdfleacircus > Sender: ModOasis > MIME-Version: 1.0 > Mailing-List: list ModOasis ; contact > ModOasis-owner > Delivered-To: mailing list ModOasis > List-Id: <ModOasis.yahoogroups.com > <http://ModOasis.yahoogroups.com>> > Precedence: bulk > List-Unsubscribe: > <mailto:ModOasis-unsubscribe > > Date: Thu, 16 Jun 2005 06:28:21 -0400 > Subject: Ella's Novel (intro) > Reply-To: ModOasis > Content-Type: text/html; charset=US-ASCII > Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit > > <html><body> > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been > removed] > > ____________________________________________________ Yahoo! Guest guest
With Yahoo, go to " mail options " (over on the right-hand side of the screen) and then " general preferences. " Then you can change your name to whatever you want. You can only have one " outgoing " name, though, so if you're on multiple email lists, pick one that works for all of them. Guest guest
Thanks, , and everyone who offered suggestions. The problem is indeed that I'm using my regular e-mail address and the account ID has my first and last name. I deleted the last name field and now it only posts my first name. I prefer to post from my mail program because I get the digests and because I still have a dialup at home so I prefer to write my posts offline, and because I hate web mail interfaces. If I could get my yahoo mail via POP I'd do it but you have to pay. Does gmail let you download via POP? In the meantime I'll just keep posting from here and try not to say anything really incriminating about any of my relatives. :-) Anyway, thanks everyone. > Dorothy, I believe the problem has nothing to do with Yahoo, The Yahoo Group > is essentially a collection of emails. Guest guest
Gmail does support POP protocol, it has an explanation of how it's set up. I sent you an invite, so all you have to do is click the link. It also might be worth getting a wireless card and checking out your neighborhood, you'd be surprised at the number of " free " networks out there. -- > > Thanks, , and everyone who offered suggestions. > > The problem is indeed that I'm using my regular e-mail address and the > account ID has > my first and last name.
