Guest guest
He is 14 and a very big boy. I'm bringing my husband and brother in law but I just don't know how it will work out. My doctor said it was okay to give him some benadryl to take the edge off Dianne > > How old is your son? Do you have numbing cream? Guest guest
You can give benadryl or valium prior to a blood draw. You can also get numbing cream Emla or a presciption that is stronger from Hopewell pharmacy in New Jersey. Bring a pillow and blanket. You can lay him on the floor and swadle him in the blanket and lay on him. Subject: Re: Any tips on drawing bloodTo: mb12 valtrex Date: Saturday, July 19, 2008, 12:36 PM He is 14 and a very big boy. Guest guest
I would try to be very honest and open about whats going to happen. Not sure of your sons level of understanding ( every child is so different : ) but possibly somehow give him a good idea of what to expect and what you expect of him. Maybe even show him a few photos of someone getting their blood drawn. I would also think giving him a treat or something nice afterwards will make next time ( if needed ) go smoother. Try to figure out a way for him not to see it when it happens also. Like have him look away or at a portable dvd player? I have no issues with having my own blood drawn but cant look. : ) Hope it goes well for you guys. 38 and Mom to threeTasha 23..new Mommy ( means I am a Grammy )Casey-Mae 13..sweet as pieElijah 2.. Guest guest
Also I forgot. Call ahead and tell the staff. They tend to be much better working with you and your son when they have a heads up : ) 38 and Mom to threeTasha 23..new Mommy ( means I am a Grammy )Casey-Mae 13..sweet as pieElijah 2.. Guest guest
We do both these things with successful results for blood draws, calling ahead and a laptop for distraction. But my son's younger.
Guest guest
Hi, it actually went really well surprisingly. The day before I kept showing him what would happen. I pretended that I was the person drawing the blood and did it quite a few times the day before and I think that really helped.
