Guest guest
Good afternoon. I was wondering what types of documents are used for kidney transplant financial education. Right now I assess what information I would like the patient to review and give them the necessary documents i.e: Medicare book on dialysis and transplant services or our state's chronic renal program. Do you have materials that you hand out to every patient who is evaluated? What type of information is provided? Thanks! Do you have materials that you hand out to every patient who is evaluated? What type of information is provided?[Aguiar, J.] There are some specifics in the new COPs pertaining to ins coverage & out of pocket costs that you also want to make sure are being covered. CMS wants potential recipients & living donors to understand what their potential out of pocket costs may be for things like Rx copays, but also time off from work, travel & temporary housing, etc. There is also language in the COPs about ensuring recipients & donors are aware that they may face either higher insurance premiums or be denied insurance coverage in the future because of their tx surgery. Finally, the COPs are also specific in ensuring recipients understand that they lose coverage for their immunos under Part B if they have their tx in a non-Medicare certified ctr. In the Information for Evaluation packet we did for each organ & the living donors, we included language about all of this. It is sent to the pt w/the schedule of their evaluation but they are also given it again when they arrive for their appointment. We also revamped all of our internal pt education materials & have included language in them to remind recipients that if they change ins or are having trouble getting their immunos post-tx because of the cost, to be sure to contact someone @ the tx ctr for assistance.
