And this is the kid that couldnt sit in the gym for sing song in Kindergarten and grade 1 cause it was too noisy....Being 13 sure has chabged a lottttttt of things for him !! Danny used to have a huge problem with noise, too…we couldn’t play the radio, he would get absolutely frantic during a thunderstorm or during fireworks(he would actually break out into a cold sweat and run around with his hands over his ears, shaking and crying…poor guy…couldn’t go to the movies because it was too loud. He had a hard time at his therapeutic horseback program because there was a railroad crossing right by there, and trains came by a lot..when the whistle blew, he would drop the reins to cover his ears and would cry. Someone from my local group suggested having him wear swimmer’s earplugs so he could still hear if someone talked to him, but it would deaden the whistle sound for him. Worked great. After several weeks, he didn’t need the earplugs anymore. Last year, for the first time, he wanted to watch fireworks…came to me with his headphones in hand and told me he wanted to go down the block to watch the fireworks. Also, he has been able to go to theaters to watch movies for several years now..has to have headphones, but…it works for us;-) And whenever we go anywhere in the car, he asks to have the radio on. I never would have believed how much he would change.
