Guest guest
Hello everyone,, I have been on vacation and haven't been on the internet till now. First let me say 'Happy Birthday" to all I missed while away. Second, In answer to my question before I left about my son not being allowed to take his Dynavox V to school all has been taken cared of, and I'd like to thank those who offered their help. Last and The Most Important issue now is the use of the 'R' word and the respect that is long over do for all. As I've mentioned before, .....................WE NEED COMMERCIALS,BILLBOARDS,MAGAZINE ADS.,.................... ......................................................PEOPLE!!!............................................................ Back in Sept. of '07 I wrote a letter to Mr. Tolleson of NDSC and received a reply from Mr. Fornay, the Communications Director, 1st VP, a member of the Board at the time and the father of a son,28, with Down syndrome. I was told there were 3 spots to view and my letter was right on time requesting commercials, etc. Well, I have yet to see any on TV. I do however; see Autism commercials and magazines ads, left and right. Where are the voices for our children, adults? These voices not only need to be heard but SEEN....................................................................................... I wrote a not so very nice letter to Carr (CafePress) and shared with her some ideas for other t-shirts using the 'other letters' of the alpabet.I reminded her of ' Freedom of Speech' so whats the problem? Let me see those in print!!!! What really saddens me is that I know there are more families out there with children/adults that are D/S and I keep wondering "Where r they?" I understand some families refuse to 'get involved' and are content with the way things are, so be it. But those of us that want to make a change need to get 'out there' not only utilizing the internet but the old fashion way. BE SEEN...ADVERTISE...BE HEARD!!! Thank you Stage One for your site, it will serve a much needed cause. If we could get 2gether and host some fundraisers along with putting in a few dollars ourselves we could start showcasing the positive instead of the negative on billboards. It can work!!! Our D/S community is just swept under the rug, hidden at all costs and I am fed up. Lets ban together for our community and BE SEEN and HEARD!!! The 'ball' is in our court, lets run with it!!! I pay out of my own pocket to get brochures together and rent from time to time a small street billboard for Down Syndrome Awareness in October.I also distribute my own and brochures from the Nat'l D/S Society and Congress most everywhere I go. And Stage One, prayer does help. It is possible to move man, through God, by prayer alone. Hudson Glad to be back! smom "Where there is passion and a fire burning in your heart, there is hope..." In response to some of the emails I've received today let me first say that when I spent the time making the banner I went buy information where it was stated as "DOWN'S". A few said there was no apostrophe so I changed the text to reflect that as "DOWNS". Others have stated there is no "S" at all in it. Because it took me over two hours to get the banner right and any of the spellings is correct somewhere I am going with "DOWN'S". Here is where I kick in. I will be updating the site with goals and hope to find at least 5 others to serve as a board of directors. Guest guest
Thanks for your plea...the spots that Forney talked about have grown, there are now NINE of them...to view them go to: http://www.ndsccenter.org/morealike/videos.php Want to see them on TV? MONEY talks...and there is an AWESOME opportunity to get $1.5 million dollars through the American Express Members project. http://www.membersproject.com:80/project/view/SJT6WB I am pretty close to signing off both lists I'm on because a week ago I emailed everybody...I mean ONE WEEK FROM TODAY to go on and nominate the 'More Alike than Different' Campaign and as of this minute there are only 309 nominations! WHAT? 309 in one week? I have an email list of over 400 people BY MYSELF...why isn't this being distributed to everybody...this is the POSITIVE AWARENESS we need and everybody is raising cane about Tropic Thunder when it will take THREE MINUTES to go and nominate, AND FORWARD the request!!!! And don't say 'I don't have an American Express Card' because they have a 'guest' option for the nomination process! The 25 top projects go forward to then be narrowed to the top 5 and there is money for all top 5 projects. Where's the money? Sitting there waiting for us to take it. Guest guest
You know , I have emailed everyone I could possibly think of JUST like I did last time u had mentioned it here. Guest guest
, I am new here so I don't know all that you do and your organization or this campaign............in short, I am in a state of self-admitted complete ignorance on what your deal is. That said, while I think it is great to have adults in the Down's community tell their story, why does it have to be only a few? Why not give each some time or edit together a spot highlighting the strong points of each rather than make us choose THE BEST stories or THE BEST to be allowed to speak? I think it's great you feel passionate about your agenda but is berating others for being passionate about the continued public humiliation of our children and adults in the DS community because we are offended by their portrayal in " Tropic Thunder " and the items being sold on Cafe Press really fair? You tapped into support and money and I think that is GREAT! Imagine how much impact that money would have towards ridding every single derogatory item playing on the " retard " mode on Cafe Press and the message it would send to other vendors? Since you chose to post your rant under the subject heading of my cause I guess I have just cause and right to take some offense......but this isn't about YOUR DEAL or MY DEAL................it's about what's right and wrong and going after the evil our kids cannot. I get your frustration but I don't think the stamping of feet and taking your marbles and going home or berating all of us for our string feelings the best way to promote your positive campaign do you? I mean, I see people on these list argue about vitamin therapies and whether " Down's " should be spelled " Downs " or " Down " and I want to shake everyone and ask WHAT THE HELL IS THE DIFFERENCE? FOCUS ON THESE DAMN OFFENSIVE SHIRTS AND MOUSE PADS DEGRADING OUR KIDS!! In short, focus! This is why groups like the NAACP. They focus on one issue at a time and take them down and, with each victory, gain credence, respect and power. I guess I don't like threats so if you are " pretty close to signing off both lists " because people aren't responding as fast as you think they are to your cause then just make your point and DO IT! Leave, go, goodbye! That said, I mean no offense but I personally think putting a stop to the negative attitudes towards our kids by shining a bright light on the cockroaches that perpetrate making fun and profit at their expense and dignity a little more important or, at least, equally important. I think you also should take a deep breath and understand as I do that we can't all just drop everything in our daily lives. I'm raising 2 children w/DS so I have time restrictions too. Best of luck! I'm not a man who pulls punches or takes crap. If you want to back someone who is soft spoken and polite then I guess I'm not your guy. Unfortunately we live in a world where hiding behind a bible and praying for God to fix things isn't going to cut it. Sometimes it takes someone rough around the edges who isn't afraid to get their hands dirty to play on the same level as the scum attacking our kids. This is who I am.I want to make clear and will only say this ONCE. I have nothing against religions or the bible. I have my own set of religious beliefs but that is a personal matter between God and myself and I refuse to pander using the religious angle. If someone is in need or a cause needs help I don't care what your religious beliefs are or if they exist at all. The focus for me is on our beautiful kids and not if or how you worship God. The main people behind Cafe Press may be church goers. Makes no difference to me. Right is right and disrespect to our children is disrespect. I will be updating the site with goals and hope to find at least 5 others to serve as a board of directors. We will be filing for non-profit status and, until then, I will finance this best I can on my own funds. It would not be appropriate for me to seek donations until our non-profit status is granted so you will not see a way to make donations... ....though it will come in the future!!! LOL!!!As for Cafe Press I've already spoke to them and they've politely told me they don't give a damn so I have a list of radio stations in their area of San Mateo, CA I will seek to gain time on one or more talk shows and do them. In the meantime I will seek some time on local talk radio in my area in the Mid-West. I am open to suggestions on anything as long as it has nothing to do with apostrophe's and "S's" and you can flog or applaud my efforts publicly here or privately at adminndsro (DOT) com This is who I am and what my organization stands for. As the board members are appointed and we gain more structure more formal guidelines and mandates will be in place. I only ask your support, not necessarily because I'm such a "nice guy" but because I am willing to stand up and work my God given big mouth on behalf of ALL of our children to give them a better today and better tomorrow, one battle at a time. Thanks for reading and I hope we can work together.Bill
Guest guest
I just got an invite to join a group for ndsro from a moderator...I didn't ask to join so I am wondering why I got the invite. Can anyone tell me more about it? [DownSyndromeInfoEx change] N.D.S.R.O SiteTo: DownSyndromeInfoExc hange@yahoogroup s.comDate: Thursday, August 21, 2008, 9:35 PM Hello everyone!!!This is my first post since joining this group though some of you already know me. At the urging of some wonderful people as well as the disgust at some of the disrespect I've seen against our kids and the stories I've heard where parents just sit down and take the garbage thrown at them by school systems and what not "praying" for resolution I decided to start the NATIONAL DOWN'S SYNDROME RIGHTS ORGANIZATION. In response to some of the emails I've received today let me first say that when I spent the time making the banner I went buy information where it was stated as "DOWN'S". A few said there was no apostrophe so I changed the text to reflect that as "DOWNS". Others have stated there is no "S" at all in it. Because it took me over two hours to get the banner right and any of the spellings is correct somewhere I am going with "DOWN'S". Here is where I kick in. Does everyone think whether a damn apostrophe exist or not is more important than the fact below on my site I have shown a small amount of THE RUDE AND OFFENSIVE RETARD SHIRTS CAFE PRESS IS SELLING????? ????????? ????????? I know some think it well intentioned but the site is up and will reflect the " 'S" so let's move on to larger matters!!!! Feel free to put your thumb over the apostrophe and the "S" if it makes you feel better!I have 2 children with Down's Syndrome and am sick and tired of my kids and others like them getting jerked around by the system and society.
