Love and Hugs to all.....a ITA with a....I live in constant pain due to my lack of calcium over rhe RNY years. I will pay for it forever. Some people don't realize that calcium and lack or too much can affect every muscle in your body. It can make the muscles twitch and before you think that''s not too bad, remember the heart is a muscle. B12 can leave you with permanent neurological damage if it's too low too long, and others have results that can impair you. My mistake was thinking that because I was gaining weight with the RNY I was absorbing enough vitamins...I was WRONG! In my defense, I was never told calcium malabsorption was an issue with the RNY. I was never told to have labs, Until Dr. H took over as my primary, none of the docs had checked any of this stuff despite symptoms....They assumed the fat chick was a hypochondriac....LOL, Even had me wondering if I was.... melanie in Bama VBG 1982 (lost from 433lbs to 270's) VBG -RNY1996 revision(Lost from 343 to 299) RNY-DS revision Dec 2002 -down 135 lbs (377.7 to 242.2 and still going) Homepage address- http://hometown.aol.com/mdl1031/myhomepage/profile.html Many thanks to Dr. K willing to take on a 3rd timer....LOL

I had very low levels of iron and had to endure iron infusions. I still have yet to get back to have everything checked out, but I no longer crunch ice, so part of the anemia is gone! I have to say that I take my multi-vitamin and B12 religiously, but I suck on taking calcium. This story about Dee has set me on my ear and guess what I have all over my house, in front of my computer here at work and in my car? Yea, Viactiv.... To be honest, I was taking the tums quite regularly, but when Dawn told me that was not a good source of calcium, I was like huh? So after imparting that knowledge on me, I kinda just forgot about it. My calcium levels have been elvevated ever so slightly, but nothing major. Geesh, how much you wanna bet at my 3 year check-up my labs are all kinds of messed up. Blah, doncha just hate when you have totally set yourself up for failure and it could have been avoided, easily? lp
Guest guest
I had a DEXA scan right after having the DS to establish a baseline. I remeber people on the mainlist saying it was a waste but I wanted one anyway. I think it is a good idea for everyone to get one to start with just to know where you are. I know that I had NO damage to my hips and spine 2 years ago - hope that it is still so. hugs, cindy lee > > Jo, > > Makes me wonder if my Fibro is actually fibro, or just the > damage from > > the low calcium over the years from the RNY?
