Anxiety - Help!

My son has lots of anxiety. Cries/whines loudly about everything from

going to camp/school, to going potty, changing locations, eating,

drinking, stopping/starting activities, etc. etc. etc. It's driving me

absolutely CRAZY! Can anyone suggest supplements that help to ease

anxiey, and/or perhaps OCD type behaviors (ie. will only urinate in

potty at home...NOWHERE else.)?

I just want to scream.

Thanks,

Hi ,

I know ABSOLUTELY what you are going through. My daughter, mild ASD, 6 yrs. old, has HORRENDOUS anxieties. They are triggered by typical, everyday items, and can come on unexpectedly. Her worst one is the MGM Lion which flashes across the television screen for a couple seconds before an MGM movie comes on. For the last 3 years she has had it in her head that EVERY show, and EVERY DVD, and EVERY tape will have that MGM Lion on it. So, for that reason she will not enter ANYPLACE that she sees tapes, dvd's or a television set on that she is unfamiliar with. She has MANY anxiety triggers, but that one is the worst.

We have tried supplements and therapies to try to relieve my daughter of her anxieties, but unfortunately, none have worked. However, some do work for other people. So, you may want to try gaba, l-theanine, lithium orotate, a product called Anxiety Control, another product called Calm Child. A therapy which we are currently continuing is Chiropractic Neurology. I am certain we have tried other supplements in the past 3 years, but I am drawing a blank as to the names at the moment.

Best of luck to you finding something that works for your son. I will be watching the responses you get in hopes of seeing something new to try.

Matt has this and GABA helped until he stopped taking the GABA

according to his doctor antivirals and antifungals are going to make

this go away along with a diet that is more hypoallergenic...we shall

see....for now, I would try GABA since the other stuff isn;t somnething

you can do anything about at this moment. Also, b vitamins helped us in

this area....

Karmen - is your kid a viral one? I asked our doctor about the

anxiety and OCD stuff and his attitude was in an autism kid - nope -

in a kid whose body and brain are being injured by viruses YES...all

the stuiff you describe went away in Matt on valtrex and an

antifungal...it has come back slowly now that he is not on anything.

He starts famvir soon and I will let you know if it goes away

again...Di

Thanks Karmen. The anxiety induced whining is enough to make you jump off a bridge sometimes, isn't it? Odd, but my son is a rather pleasant sweet child WHEN someone is not making any demands of him. BUT the second you want him to do something, i.e. eat, change activities, pee in a potty not at home, move from one classroom to another, etc, he just goes nuts. Being that transitions happen many many times per day, somedays it feels like all he is doing is whining. What gets worse is that sometimes he is so upset that he head butts to show his frustration and he damages things (walls) with his head. It's getting unbearable. My father was afraid he was going to put his head through his sliding glass door yesterday, all because we were trying to get him to use the potty at my parents' house. Unreal.

By the way, have you tried Oxytocin? My friends daughter, who is basically a miserable type kid, has made some very impressive gains with it. My friend said if it works you can see it almost immediately. Their DAN is Kartzinel.

I'm about to order some adrenal compound for my son's anxieties. I

wonder if that would work as well.

I agree with the GABA recommendation.

Inositol may help as well. It won't help directly with the anxiety,

but it often helps a lot of obsessive-compulsive type behaviors.

So it may help with changing tasks or venues, etc.

Inositol is a nutrient and was once regarded as a vitamin.

Probably worth a trial.

Cheers
