Guest guest
Welcome Ida! I was put on oxygen 24/7 about 7 or 8 years ago. Then I was told just to put the oxygen on when I was up walking around, vacuum and working around the house. Now I sleep with oxygen only unless I am having trouble breathing. I quit all oxygen until I discovered I felt so much better the next day. I have a 50 foot hose that I use so that I can get to anything I need. My concentrator is in my front room away from my bedroom. It makes so much noise and heats up the room. I think you will find that you too will feel better with the oxygen. I do not cough much any more. When I get the thick mucus, I use my inhaler and drink a cup of hot coffee. Good luck! > > Hi, i just joined & have been reading the emails & info at yahoo... i have had asthma for about 15 yrs, but always been able to get it under control with anti-biotics & prednisone during an attack... but, starting in November '08 had an attack & have been what i would call, in a constant asthmatic condition the whole time. Would get better while on antibiotics & prednisone, and then that asthmatic coughing would start & then i get terrible again.... and on & on... finally, my doctor has recommended oxygen, which was delivered today... has this helped any of you.?? oh & of course, would get thrush each time, even though i take pro-biotics & rinse out my mouth constantly. > Thank you, ida >

Guest guest
Hi Ida. Welcome to our group. The prednisone makes you way more susceptible to thrush - then adding antibiotics to the mix. WHOA! I have loads of experience with that! Ask your doctor for nystatin and swish and spit twice a day before using your controller med. Also, you may want to ask your doc for a supply of diflucan to keep on hand. Mine gets so bad that I get it in the bloodstream and break out in skin folds and stuff. Oxygen - I have to use it at night and I can say it makes a difference for me. It tends to take some of the pressure off of my lungs, but then I have some other lung issues I am dealing with as well on top of the asthma. I don't have to use the oxygen during the day except when I have a bad cold or after a particularly bad attack. Of course, any attack I have seems to be particularly bad. LOL. Guest guest
--- Madeline, keep up the good work!!!! I put my exercise routines as an extreme priority in my life and have for many years. Quality of life means a lot and the rest of my day goes along a lot better after one as you have stated, however as I get older I have notced that there are foods that never bothered me before, now I have to give up. Do to the discipline that I have had throughout the years, adjusting my food hasn't been that difficult. In asthma , Madeline Ingram wrote: > > Steve is absolutely on target. My workout routines have done absolute wonders for me. My doctor set me up in a pulmonary therapy program. They target the muscles that support breathing. Start off very slowly and work up. My stamina has increased 1000% at least. I am also off the oxygen completely during the day unless I have a cold. Much much better. > Madeline > http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Lungs_on_Vacation/ > > > > > ________________________________ > > To: asthma > Sent: Tuesday, August 4, 2009 9:49:16 PM > Subject: Re: newbie > > > > > Hello Ida: I am a newbie also and have had asthma for all of my life or 60 years. My asthma is not as bad as some of you, but it is bad enough to have all of the other health problems that go along with the disease and struggle with breathing.. I found, do to trial and error that a strenuous workout, walk, swim, weights, etc. after a good exhaustion and sweat, the routine helped clear out my lungs spit up a lot of flem, in the process helping me breathe a lot better. That may have helped me stay off of the medication for all of these years, I am not sure. I know this is something that never goes away so my workout routines will be a life time commitment. I thought I would throw out another alternative or add.
