Guest guest
Ha ha. Not really, there ARE a few options. As you may recall from previous posts, those of us in the LOCAL FOODS movement are trying to redeem and reclaim the food experience at the MN State Fair. No one needs to say much about the de=evolution of fair " food " except that it could hardly be more degenerate. BECCA and I will be at the ECO-EXPERIENCE BUILDING today from 1-5 giving away samples of GRASS-FED BEEF from Thousand Hills Cattle Co (stop by and say HELLO!). In addition, these have been my past favorites (with a couple of additions) MY FAVORITE STATE FAIR FOODS (that won't kill you immediately) 1) Local apples from the Horticulture Building 2) Honey-Sunflower ice cream sundaes (Hort. Building) Buy some local honey too!! 3) Lamb Shoppe sandwiches (food building) 4) Local beers (some micro!) at various places around the fair 5) Fresh popcorn (over by Giggles) 6) Thousand Hills grass-fed hamburgers at BLUE MOON CAFE (new this year) Look between the Star and Trib theater and the Midway. The place is also zero trans fats! 7) Sausage Sisters (food building)- all meat from Lorentz Meats in Cannon Falls 8) French Meadows Cafe and Bakery- They've begun adding healthful entrees 9) So-Called " free range " pork brats (probably Nieman) at the small outdoor stand between the horse barn and the horse coliseum. 10) Walleye On a Stick-broiled (food buildiing) 11) Fair Trade coffee and local organic ice cream bars at the Farmer's Union building. WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITES??? REMEMBER- Extra points for you if you BICYCLE OR BUS to the Fair! Something valuable to teach your children! Car Pooling is good too.
