Guest guest
Hi RB, I am also on the Duregesic Patch and have been for some time. I change mine every 72 hours. We tried to get the patch covered with my insurance with the instructions of changing it every 48 hours but the ins. company would not cover it that way. Didn't matter that we gave them plenty of information that some people's bodies assimilate medication faster than others. Also when I'm flaring my body seems to use the meds up faster. My doctor said this was not unusual with chronic pain patients. But I did want to offer this..... The medication from the patch stays in your body for up to 17 hours. While it is less effective at that time I have forgotten to change my patch and been relatively ok until I got home to change it. Of course I have breakthru meds to help out also. Kathleen in Calif. Guest guest
Hi RP, I am not a male so I can't answer as far as testosterone, but as a woman I can say that low sex drive happens to us also. Not only from the medication but also because it takes every ounce of energy just to get thru the day and there's nothing left over as far as sex is concerned. This is the way my doctor described it to me at least. There are medications for men but nothing for women that targets the lobido. Are there other women out there that feel the same way? Thank God my husband is understanding and also suffers from cp. Kathleen in Calif.
Guest guest
> > > Hello Group, > > Is there anyone out there on MS-contin and having sexual side effects. I had my testosterone checked and found out my total testosterone was just 100. As you well know this cause's low sex drive. Is there anyone out there that has this problem? > > I found out a study was done that shows opiates cause testosterone to drop. > > R.P. Yes, I've recently been tested for and diagnosed with low testosterone - at the time we had no idea why - since then I've done some reasearch and there appears to be a high incidence of men on pain meds having depressed hormones - ite seems that the drugs make the brain repress the stimulating hormone for the gonads - haven't found anything OFFICIAL - but there seems to be a lot of anecdotal evidence ot back it up - myself included. As for treatment, I'm using Androgel and once we hit the right dosage it was like flipping a light switch - until the right dosage I saw very little improvement. With the gel, you don't the spikes like you do withshots and you don't have the irritationa dn inconvenience of the patches. The daily application of gel also miimcs the bodies natural production cycles - high int he am and then tapering off during the day. I'm including a link to an old forum with t a lengthy thread on the subject http://neuro-mancer.mgh.harvard.edu/cgi-bin/search.cgi?action=intro Hope this helps, Mark
