Guest guest
>my understanding is, any medication that contains steroid can - (but not always will) cause Glaucoma. I am sure millions of people have been taking Symbicort and other asthma medications for many years and have never developed Glaucoma. But I did. Very sorry about the glaucoma. Fortunately now they do have reasonably effective treatments. Both my parents had/have glaucoma so I tried hard to get by without the Advair. But breathing is important too. Still I don't want to add medications to counteract the side effects of other medications. Mom (98) takes over 20 pills a day and the side effects are discouraging. Guest guest
I am on eye drops to control the Glaucoma. My ophthalmologist checks periodically on my eye pressure to make sure the drops are lowering the pressure in my eyes...............so far so good. Donna J. Re: ALVESCO Gee Donna, I'm sure sorry that it was you that developed glaucoma. I am glad that they found it and changed you medicine. I know that all the meds we take has some bad effects. I hate steroids, any kind of steroids, but if you want a half way normal life we just have to grin and bear it. How is the Glacoma affecting you now?> >> > I have been using Symbicort for the last year or so - and have developed glaucoma.> > > > I went to my asthma doctor today and she has prescribed Alvesco. Guest guest
You know I read a really good article in the last month or two in Readers digest about this. There are many times where the docs just give more meds to stop something when all they really needed to do in the first place was reevaluate how many meds the person is on and possibly make a few changes to the existing meds. One guy they followed was like Mike As mom...on over 20 meds a day. He went to a new doctor who did a thorough evaluation of all his complaints AND what meds he was on...and hes down to 6 pills a day with little to no complaints. I really think that some of these doctors do not look at our meds other than in passing when they prescribe things. We really are starting to have to be our own advocates and know what side effects our meds can cause and it seems what interactions are possible. Its kind of sad but I guess that is how it goes. has glaucoma...oddly enough the military found it b/c his ocular nerve is oddly shaped. His eye pressure was normal, but on the high end. They put him on some drops as well Donna. He is maintaining quite well on that. thankfully he had a really good opthamalogist who picked up on that sublety. Ann An Excellent Credit Score is 750.
