I always knew I did not like Couric... my list of people I don't have

time for any more is growing ;) ... Elle *^_^*

Kind of ticked.

Hey guys,

I was watching the show on discovery health about Al Roker's RNY. It

said

he lost 115 lbs. I am glad for him, and hope he does well, But while I was

watching it I was kind of ticked at Couric's Snooty remark. She said

" we

were all kind of glad that he did this...He lost like 2 whole people...!! It

goes to show how slender people percieve us as obese. A 115 lb person would

be

tiny, not to mention she claimed he had lost 2 people....Why on earth does

this bother me? Am I nit picking? -- in Bama

Couric is a moron who has never had to worry about her weight

and therefore, has no clue what it's like to obese or how much a

normal person weighs. I understand your annoyance, and when it's

the media, it's doubly aggravating. Unfortunately, it's a sad fact

of life that idiots like her exist. (Sorry, I'm not a fan.)

No, Ed, is a moron because she has no clue what it means to have a

weight problem yet she doesn't mind expounding authoritatively upon that

about which she knows nothing.

I totally understand and agree with everything you said Janet. But I don't

feel ashamed for my feeling that she (nor ANYONE ELSE) should be making

disparaging remarks about people " of size " on national TV. I feel like

overweight

people are far to readily " blamed " for being fat when it is much more

complicated than that. Although I have not had cancer myself the dreaded evil

has

affected those near and dear to me and I can feel empathy, sympathy and

understanding and huge anger toward this evil. But when people are overweight

you often

hear jokes, finger pointing and blame. No one asks for cancer no one asks to

be fat.

Okay I have stood on this soapbox for so many years I just can't step down

off of it. But I don't mean to say bad things about any PERSON just the

unfairness.

Hi Pat -

I'm driving a van load of church youth volunteers back from a week near

Elko, NV that day. I will be at the meeting on Tuesday, though. I do

anticipate eating a bit of Basque cuisine that night, too.

But marta,

Having cancer doesn't offer someone a free reign to be insensitive. I

mean someone in the public eye has a higher standard that they should adhere

to.

Would she get a free pass if she was discriminating against, say a group of

black or hispanic people just because she had cancer at one time? Don't feel

ashamed. You have battled both obesity and cancer and won!

LOL, Mel, you mean I am not alone in night eating? I can go all day

with just a simple half a tuna sandwich and an egg or two, but darn

when 10pm rolls around, out come the pop tarts, brownies, cake, and

fig newtons! I cannot believe I actually ate ALL THAT last night! And

I am not talking small portions here, I munched my way through 1/4 of

the pan of brownies, 2 waffles with butter and powdered sugar, 2 pop

tarts, 8 fig newtons, and a 4X4 piece of chocolate cake! THEN after

all the sweets I decided I needed chicken and dumplings! Geez, you'd

have thought it was high school again and a case of the smoke and

toke munchies! Luckily my scale this morning is right where it is

supposed to be, but darn, I HATE nighttime munchies! Thank God they

only hit once or twice a week! Being awake and bored is my problem, I

do not sleep at night at all, due to breaking out in hives in the

sun, I have learned to sleep days and stay up at night, and nighttime

with a good book calls for munchies! SO far my weight has remained

pretty stable......I bounce between 138 and 148 (I hate water

retention) and with half a Lasix I drop a good 8 to 10 pounds

overnight.

I HAVE found one things that helps.....weird as it sounds....I buy 2

liter bottles of diet Vanilla pepsi, diet cherry pepsi, diet mountain

dew, diet Dr Pepper, diet Orange Slice, diet Creme Soda, and diet

root beer and freeze them overnight, then when they are good and hard

I take them out and whack the heck out of them with the

hammer.....cut the tops of the bottles with a sharp knife and instant

slushies! The ice cold chunks of soda along with the slushy texture

are wonderful, especially on these hot days, just grab a sppon and

munch away!! And at 99 cents a 2 liter bottle it beats the heck out

of 7-11's prices not to mention portion size and the amazing choices

in diet soda flavors out there! Also, after being frozen, the

carbonation is gone! My new addiction, they are wonderful!!!

OK, admit it, any other nightime munchers out there?

And what do you crave or eat when it hits??
