has ever been tested for bacterial overgrowth? This is where the

good bacteria in the stomach is overrun by bad bacteria? Macey had it last

year and had similar symptoms. Or, I'm afraid to say it, alot of the

parents I've heard from have mentioned this. It seems to just come with the

territory. Good luck with the testing. If the ped is hesitant ask for a

referral to a ped GI.

Dear Sue: My daughter suffered from stomach pains for three months till our

primary care sent her to gastrenterologist and she had bleeding peptic

ulcer. They did a simple blood test to look for certain bacteria and she

was positive. Simple antibiotic and prilosec acid inhibitor has helped to

heal the ulcer. Good Luck

Sue,

Could be bacteria overgrowth of the gut. It would certainly cause the type

of pain that you describe. GI overgrowth of the gut can be very common in

PIDs.

Dear Sue,

My daughter is ten. They prescribed prilosec 10 mg at bedtime for her. It

works alot better for her than zantac. Thanks for answering back. It makes

my day alot better. I wish I had known about this group ten years ago. It

helps with the isolation issue. God bless.

P.s. Good luck with and Jake ! I hope their stomachaches go away.

Dear Annette,

If you don't mind my asking, how old is your daughter? I use Prilosec myself

and think it is a wonderful drug and have often wondered about giving it to

my boys. They both take Zantac. My little guy always has a stomach ache and

so I was wondering if it would be a good choice for him.

Thanks for you help

Dear Annette,

Thanks for answering so quickly. I actually have a 10 year old son too.

Jake is 10. is 6. I too wish I had a group like this from the

start. It has been a long journey. I have been blessed with some very

supportive friends that seem to drop in and out when things get bad. I hope

Alissa is doing well right now. We have had a very long winter, but things

seem to be turning around.......YEA. We have a treatment tomorrow. The boys

get one every 2 weeks. They are going to increase Jake to 13.5 grams. We

have slowly titrating his amount since Sept. He has had some really bad

reactions. I hope all goes well for us this weekend.......

Thanks again and it is great to talk to you.

Sue G...

My (12) has many bowel problems. He has bleeding and pain

but oddly enough it is not every day. He will have pain around

his navel area as you described in sometimes labor-like pains and

then some bleeding and then he usually passes a large stool and

then the pain seems to subside a few hours later. He has been

tested for every bacteria known to man and he has had colonoscopies,

many many exams and still no diagnosis. This has been going on

for about 5 years but not constant or steady.

The only thing that seems to help is a course of antibiotics but

the doctors still arent sure why. We recently decided to try

diet changes and increasing fluids (not a bad idea even if it

doesnt help) and for this past month we have had no problems.

Pediatrician felt he was becoming impacted but shouldnt be bleeding

in his stools. The immunologist is the one who suggested trying

the diet changes and the only other thing she suggested was to

make him have a regular bathroom (bowel movement) time every day.

This doesnt explain the bleeding but there appears to not be an

answer at this time.

I'll be listening for anyone else with bowel-pain-bleeding problems

to offer some suggestions..
