No, wait, wait wait. We are talking about being able to get stuff without

driving

to Mexico. I am not unhappy at all. My understanding is that even IF you

drove

to Mexico (or flew), you would still have to see a doc and get a script. I

am very

happy to have this source.

You might check with Luke to see if his sources are cheaper.

He uses http://international-pharmacies.hypermart.net/ . But there

is a $10/month fee to join. PharmacyMex prices are in line with what

I have paid from England. They are not a hoax or rip off. They just know

that folks are willing to pay what they charge.

[Patti:] Most drugs in Mexico do not require a script. Some require a

script bringing it back across the border (should you get searched). Most

pharmacies are happy to provide a " script " for this purpose.

Sheila,

I think Dr. Z is right on the money with his advice. PECS worked wonders

with reducing inappropriate behaviors in my son at that age. His

difficulties with producing speech were very much as you describe. Research

supports this as well. Here are 2 articles that discuss such research that

you can download from the JABA electronic article site (Journal of Applied

Behavior Analysis home page-

http://www.envmed.rochester.edu/wwwrap/behavior/jaba/jabahome.htm):

Marjorie H. Charlop-Christy, Carpenter, Loc Le, A. LeBanc, and

Kellet. Using the picture exchange communication system (PECS) with

children with autism: Assessment of PECS acquisition, speech,

social-communicative behavior, and problem behavior. 35, 213-231.

V. Mark Durand. Functional communication training using assistive devices:

Recruiting natural communities for reinforcement. 32, 247-267.

I haven't read the first, but Durand's article clearly supports functional

communication training as appropriate alternatives to problem behaviors.

Good luck.

You may want to accept much less than a complete verbal request at

first. You may even allow him to given use a pictogram or written

word such as in PECS with or without a sound. Once you have

eliminated the inappropriate behavior, you can then slowly build up

the use of language.

If he has trouble getting the words out, escpecially when stressed,

he may benefit from visual supports such as PECS to help him produce

the words.

Dear :

I always try to at least quote from the post I am responding to so you have

some idea on what I am basing my comments. My comments are always on the

current SSRI Crusaders Digest # -- because if I don't respond that day, I don't

respond at all. The entire list comes to me in digest form -- I don't know how

it got that way, nor do I have even a remote clue how to change it, and if you

only get 100 e-mails a day, you're lucky because my inbox sports up to 200

each morning, and that's more than I can handle so I am happy that the Crusaders

list comes in one e-mail otherwise I'd be inclined to delete the entire lot.

I'll try to include the subject line if that makes it easier for you, but I'm

completely incapable of figuring out how to change any other format on this

list. Sorry about that. Blame it on my paxil-induced brain damage. LOL I'm

in the USA by the way. And my tag line is a link to my book and that webpage

has all the info anyone needs to know about me. LOL
