Guest guest
Debbie, You reminded me again why I am so relieved to have escaped the USA. My heart goes out to you. Do what you need to do to survive. I would like to propose an ethical hypothesis. Sometimes violent behavior is necessary for survival. If people in that situation would make sure that their reaction was never more violent than the original affront, at least it would avoid an escalating spiral of violence. - Dan

Guest guest
Hi Dan, I understand that you are in France? What is the prevailing view of spanking there? Just curious. Like in America, the more serious abuses are getting more attention and action. - Dan
Guest guest
That is so true. Sometimes I wish that I could leave here too. But I wonder is it really any better living any place else. They all seem about the same in the B.S. department. Debbie Re: Pro Smacking Limits > Debbie, > > You reminded me again why I am so relieved to have escaped the USA. > My heart goes out to you. Life is easier for me here because two things that are especially triggering to me are much less common here. There is much less gratuitous violence and violent talk. People don't threaten you. Some kinds of violence, such as child abuse and serial killers, are the same, but you aren't immersed in it all the time. It is OK here to express just about any opinion. You don't get labeled as a traitor or have your character attacked for disagreeing with somebody. In America they used to say, " I disagree with what you say but I defend your right to say it " . In my experience, that sentiment was never true and most Americans don't even remember it any more. Here it is still part of the value system. These two things are so triggering to me because of Nada. She is absolutely opposed to violence and violent talk, but the undercurrent of violence in her own being is so obvious that even the smallest child is terrified by it. And it is absolutely unacceptable to her that anyone should have an opinion different from hers. - Dan
