That's a good reminder about taking with food, and good to hear that you've not

had problems. At least it's not like waiting 6 weeks to find out if your porcine

T4 increase was too much.

I was wondering what amount to decrease my P-thyroid, and the .50 grain he

suggested to you seems appropriate, since 1.0 grain of Armour has 9mcg of T3, so

the Cytomel at 5mcg would replace about half that. He wasn't as specific with me

and I was going to call him about it. I guess I should anyway.

I didn't tolerate the time release cortisol, so I don't think he'd do time

release T3 for me. But can you tell me what the " MC " in the description on my

bottle shown below means? The capsules were compounded at Abrams Royal Pharmacy.

When they did the time release cortisol, it said " TR " in the description. I hope

what I have is like yours and not time release. I should call them.

I guess this will be a new type of transition challenge, as T4 serum levels will

drop off over time when my P-thyroid is replaced by T3. I don't like the idea of

going through any more swings. However, I guess the T3 can be added faster if I

crash too much, and then can be stopped quickly, if I get too buzzed. I think he

wanted me to do this transition faster, but I just don't know. I think I will

have to go more slowly. If the long term means finally getting my T3 levels up

to where they need to be, and feeling better, it will be worth it.

Do keep us posted on how it goes over the next few weeks. I am interested in

whether you notice any sense of a slide developing when the T4 levels go down,

and whether T3 increases take care of it.

He did not suggest a particular amount to reduce my thyroid when adding the Cytomel. I did the math myself. 30 mg of thyroid contains 4.5 mcg of T3. So that is the logical amount to reduce by when adding 5 mcg of Cytomel. I do not think the Cytomel is as strong as the T3 in Armour. He told me not to take it at night, but that is not possible for me, as I need some T3 after 7pm to keep me breathing all night. I actually just took my last dose at about 10:00pm. I take it in three doses.

I'm pretty sure the MC means time release. Mine is also filled at Abrams Royal and it is time release and reads the same way. They told me they use sodium bicarb as their standard filler. I LOVE how tiny the little capsules are. However, I have three different compounded meds from them and they all look the same, which could lead to confusion when using a daily med minder.I am doing well on all T3 with no T4 for over 6 weeks now. But I'm paying close attention to the next few weeks as my T4 levels could be dropping. I haven't had blood work yet.Grace

I have to wonder if the difference you notice between the T3 in Cytomel and Armour isn't more due to the fact that you are not getting the T2 and T1 that are also found in Armour.  I could not find human studies, but I did find a mouse study that showed that T2 got into the tissue very quickly as compared to T3.

There are only trace amounts of the three T2s in Armour. T2 is mainly produced through peripheral conversion, so you might get as much T2 from eating meat, especially raw or rare meat, as you do from Armour.

I would be interested in laying my hands on some real T2. It used to be available on some of the bodybuilder sites. They now sell a supplement that they call "T2" but it bears no relation to the real thing.

Since I take all of my meds with food, including dairy, I would postulate that the synthetic thyroid hormone is more readily bound than that in Armour. The hormone in Armour is already bound to a protein. Contrary to what most folks think, I consider it desirable to have a lot of bound thyroid hormone in my system. That is the only way I can get some iodine in my system without activating my quarter of a thyroid gland and any possible thyroid cancer.

It was concluded that the administration of salicylate results in an immediate displacement of T4 and T3 from plasma protein binding and possibly inhibits the conversion of T4 to T3 and of rT3 to 3,3'-diiodothyronine which results in an increase of rT3 level in plasma. It used to be available on some of the bodybuilder sites. They now sell a supplement that they call " T2 " but it bears no relation to the real thing.Since I take all of my meds with food, including dairy, I would postulate that the synthetic thyroid hormone is more readily bound than that in Armour. The hormone in Armour is already bound to a protein. Contrary to what most folks think, I consider it desirable to have a lot of bound thyroid hormone in my system. This is really interesting. Is the same true for T3, for example, could you get

some T3 from eating raw liver since that is where is it mostly produced (IIRC)?

Also an endo told me not to worry about not getting calcitonin (I am on

Synthroid but was wanting to go on Armour) because different cells in the

thyroid make calcitonin, not the same cells that make T4 and T3, so those cells

probably weren't involved in the autoimmune attack. Sounds logical to me... do

you think that is correct?

T2 is actually a thyroid hormone and may lower your TSH.
