, I was in tears while reading your email, too. I totally can relate and understand what you and your son have been through. That was exactly what had happened to our son couple of days ago. Something that I have read from Dr. Jepsen's book ( Changing Course to Autism) triggers me about our kids suffering from all these major meltdowns, screaming in pain. Our kids are attacked by their own antibodies due to their autoimmune system dysfunction and their own antibodies affect a lot of brain related and neuropsychiatric problems such as tamtrum, meltdown, anxiety, aggression... Imagine everytime, their own antibodies attack their brains and cause inflammation, and they react like that... This is horrible... This Friday, my son came home from school, and complained he had a sore throat and I noticed that he had a minor fever, so I gave him children mortrin ( anti inflammation drug), and I noticed that my son was

happier, relaxed, not as stimming as usual, ( actually was not stimming at all that day), and stayed calm status until he went to bed. So, I guess mortrin reduced some degree of brain inflammation. I am not here to tell you this is an answer to calm your son down, ( as a matter of fact, my son's tantrum went so bad and as he grew bigger, we decided to put him on Risperdal for a while), but, this is the brain inflammation, this is a disease, not about his behaviors. Please do not feel bad that you can't re-direct him, this is not what he can control, neither can you. It is his brain inflammation that causes his meltdown and pain. I have had my son tried Zoloft, Risperdal, bio-med, MB12 shots all kinds of treatments, but I know whenever he had outburst emotioanlly, meltdown, or tantrum, or stimming, compulsiveness, I can tell that is when he is suffering from certain degree of brain inflammation... I am on a mission of learning PANADS now, just

beginning to look for tests and treatments ( PANDAS--Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Dysfunction Associated with Streptococcal Infection).. Don't give up hope. We are here to listen to your voice and support you. Reikptert wrote: Someone had posted here recently about tantrums. I responded that my son was throwing more tantrums and that we can usually redirect. But now he is totally out of control with them. Today we were at a family party and

he didn't want to leave. He totally flipped out, screaming and trying to throw himself down. Luckily I was able to kind of guide him down so he didn't crack his head. When we walked to the car (me carrying him screaming) the neighbors lights flipped on as they probably thought someone was being attacked in the street. My husband yelled at him (like that would help!) but he is afraid either my son or I will get hurt. I am very petite and my son is very strong. And he is just going to get bigger. I have to admit I am afraid suddenly too. I barely keep a hold on him while he does this. What can I do? The rest of the day went fantastic except for him stimming at the ceiling fan. Now he finally fell asleep and I can hear him sobbing. It breaks my heart. He couldn't stop screaming. I was holding him and he was signing for me to sing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" I was just crying as I sang it because I hate that he is

hurting like this. And to see him try to calm down and not be able to was just so unbearable for me. A few weeks ago he wasn't like this. And he has had so many great gains but with those gains seems to come worse tantrums. Now they are truly scary. I thought maybe it was the carnitine but I think this started before that. And he has become so much more verbal with the carnitine. Any ideas on how to help him regulate himself? Any help would be greatly appreciated.Sincerely, Rei Founder/Senior Loan Officer TX State Mortgage Broker License #75036 TX State Loan Officer License #65838 Miles Funding LLC Rethink Vaccines. How do you know for sure? A stool test. Berberine Complex (or goldenseal, which is one of the active ingredients in it) is an antifungal/antibacterial. I wasn't sure it was bacteria but my DAN suspected it and said to do a trial of the Berberine. Since he responded so quickly and effectively, that was a sign it was bacteria, that and his symptoms which we had NEVER seen before and were nothing like his yeast symptoms (drunk, giggly, etc.).

I thought his gut was in pretty good shape now. His tummy isn't sticking way out, we do probiotics several times a day. He seemed okay and otherwise happy and making progress. But when he loses it now-he has no control. I have never seen him like he was last night. Before if this happened, we could put him in his room and bring him a drink and he would be fine. Nothing worked last night. and it was so hard to see him trying to calm down and not be able to. That was the worst experience we have ever had with this. I never want to have another night like that again. I don't think I could handle it. How do you know if it is a bacteria issue? What does Berberine Complex do? I haven't heard of that yet. Thanks so much.

My son had a horrible bacterial flare when on Valtrex. He is a very happy child, no behaviors other than stimming, no outbursts and no moods. After 2 weeks on Vatrex, he turned into a demon. He could not stop throwing himself on the ground, kicking, screaming, crying, banging his head, etc. The only thing that calmed him down (briefly) was a car ride. This went on for at least a few days, all day and all night. Berberine Complex stopped it in its tracks. Bacteria in my house is worse than yeast. Do you have a sense of what shape his gut is in?

Rei, when you give the motrin if you can get therapuetic chicken

stock into him as well...bigtime anti inflam properties esp if made

with the " yucky " pars...necks, feet, backs, wings etc bc of the

additional gelatin and add 2 tbl of Apple Cider Vinegar to the cold

water to leach the calcium from the bones...it works.

Hi,

Would you mind telling me how you make this? Just

boil a whole chicken? Then add the vinegar to the pot

after it cools down? Any thing else? I know we need

this and have never heard about this before. I know

the calcium supplements are not well absorbed by the

body.

Thanks,

,

Have you considered seasonal allergies as the trigger for these

tantrums? For three years running, my son has gotten out of control

in the spring, and it is all because of histimines.

He acts like a different person during this time. Instead of " happy-

go-lucky, " he bites(us and himself), screams, punches, etc. He is

clearly in hell. We had him at the ER at 3:00 A.M. one Sunday night

a few weeks ago b/c he was screaming and pulling our hair out and

biting us for almost 5 hours straight. We thought we were missing

something (bursting appendix??? etc.)

Although we hate having him on them, Singulair and Claritin seam to

be the combo that helps my son reach equallibrium, but he is still

talking much less than usual. He will be on them for less than three

months and had no problem with them last spring. I keep telling

myself it is temporary. There is a lot of controversy w/Singulair

right now, which is why we were hesitant to put him back on it.

There are actually histimine receptors in the brain which affect some

children cognitively when the allergies get to them. My son is one of

these kids.

Just something to think about/rule out/potentially address.

Good luck. Hang in there.

I don't think it is allergies. He was really happy and easy going up until that point Saturday night. I think it was the BED Supergreens I had started about two weeks ago with him. Looking back that seems when the tantrums started to increase. I think it was too high in oxalates for him. He hasn't had it since Saturday and has not had a crazy tantrum since. They actually seem to be getting better. There have been two times where he didn't get his way and started to tantrum. The first time I put him in his room and gave him a drink. This was what always worked in the past and it worked. The yesterday I put the little guys in the girls room and gated them in while I was washing floors. He started to scream a bit but stopped really quick. So I think it was the new drink. I may go to my dad's for a bit later to test out how leaving goes! I am still a bit nervous about it! Thanks for the tip o

n the allergies though. It's definitely something to look out for.

MS, your post caught my eye. If I understand correctly from the

last few DAN conferences, you may want to try anti-inflammatory

during this time of year. If you give your child dye free motrin

and it helps, this may be indication that this course of treatment

will help you this time of year until further healing of immune

system etc.....

Re: Tantrums--now out of control-terrible night

,Have you considered seasonal allergies as the trigger for these tantrums? For three years running, my son has gotten out of control in the spring, and it is all because of histimines. He acts like a different person during this time. Instead of "happy-go-lucky," he bites(us and himself), screams, punches, etc. He is clearly in hell. We had him at the ER at 3:00 A.M. one Sunday night a few weeks ago b/c he was screaming and pulling our hair out and biting us for almost 5 hours straight. We thought we were missing something (bursting appendix??? etc.) Although we hate having him on them, Singulair and Claritin seam to be the combo that helps my son reach equallibrium, but he is still talking much less than usual. He will be on them for less than three months and had no problem with them last spring. I keep telling myself it is temporary. There is a lot of controversy w/Singulair right now, which is why we were hesitant to put him back on it.There are actually histimine receptors in the brain which affect some children cognitively when the allergies get to them. My son is one of these kids. Just something to think about/rule out/potentially address.Good luck. Hang in there.MS

Re: Re: Tantrums--now out of control-terrible night

Thanks for your reply. It is such a relief to talk about this to people who understand. I was so happy my father had left the party before us. He doesn't get any of this and I think he is even embarrassed by it. I can't imagine the look I would have gotten with that tantrum. My son only has a few words so he can't tell me when something hurts him. That makes it so hard. It's intersting what you said about the motrin. I hate to think he is in all this pain and not able to tell me. It must be so horrible for these kids. I think PANDAS is part of our problem as well. My kids had strep throat four times in nine months (if even). By the last round of antibiotics my son had a horrible yeast diaper rash that got infected. And at the time we didn't have a dx, my pedi never mentioned probiotics and I had none of the info about yeast and guts and antibiotics and pandas that I now have. I hope we heal our kids soon. This is just so unfair to them. I am taking to a holistic doc soon and hope she can help me to help him.

Thank you!
