i'd just sit down with him and explain your son's diagnosis to him in

an easy way. let him know that he's just a little different, and

needs everyone's help to learn new things. try to involve him in

helping you teach your son things (flash cards, etc). he might start

enjoying that then. perhaps he's jealous of all teh attention the

younger child gets. my 7 yr old daughter told me she's jealous

because of all the attention her brother alex gets. alex is

autistic, adn i've explained this to her, and that he just needs some

extra attention to help him learn things better. she is fine with

him now and i include her in a lot of the thigns i do for my son.

one of her favorites was helping me design some flash cards for him.

> HI everyone!

> I was the one who STARTED all this by asking if other kids rip!! I

really have found all the replies extraordinarily helpful...and we

are instituting some of the suggestions - like in school, having my

son (he is 3 1/2 yrs. old and enrolled in a TEACCH program in our

local public school!!) sit in a 'pool' where he can rip papers that

are in there...and at home, giving him magazines and old phone books

(my sister-in-law's idea) from the 'ripping box' to destroy!

old son, who has asked for a different little brother, because he

doesn't 'like' this one???
